The North East baseball overcame an early four-run deficit to defeat host Rising Sun 8-6 Monday afternoon, April 30. The Indians scored eight unanswered runs to grab command. North East tallied twice in the top of the second to trim their deficit in half. Chase Hollister knocked in the second run with a bad-hop single off the third baseman. Tigers' shortstop Evan Wallace recovered in time to cut down a run at the plate.
North East rallied for three runs in the top of the third to take the lead for good. Winning pitcher Payton Hoskins delivered an RBI single and another run scored on an outfield error on the play. Andy Jones drove in the go-ahead run with a single up the middle. Matt Ross had a two-run single in the fourth to lengthen the lead to 7-4 and another run scored on a fielder's choice grounder. Trailing 8-5, Rising Sun got one back in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI double by Colin Harkey. The Tigers narrowed the gap to 8-6 on a Kenny Dollenger RBI single in the sixth and had the bases loaded with one out. But Kyle Miller, the Indians' third pitcher of the day, induced a ground ball double play turned by Hoskins at second base to end the threat. Rising Sun had two on with one out in the seventh, but could not score. The Tigers had taken a 4-0 lead in the home half of the first. With one out, Phil Lyons walked and Johnny Kampes was hit by a pitch. Zac Chadwick grounded a single to right to load the bases and Nick Brammer was hit by a pitch to knock in a run. Following a force at the plate, Brett Valentin delivered an RBI single to left and Tyler Pritchard lashed a two-run double to left-center. Comments are closed.
