The Rising Sun boys soccer team saw their 11-game win streak come to an end Friday as host Kennett (Pa.) topped the visiting Tigers 3-0 on the turf. It was a step up in competition for Rising Sun (11-2), who have recorded romps over most of their league foes, and the Tigers performed admirably. Kennett took the lead in the 14th minute and added another goal two minutes before halftime.
Rising Sun was able to generate more scoring chances in the second half but could not convert. Kennett tacked on an insurance goal midway through the second stanza. The Tigers tallied seven second-half goals on the way to an 8-0 victory over visiting Bohemia Manor last Thursday. Cody Thomas tallied twice and had an assist. Zak Wiegand scored in the 15th minute off an assist from Jeff Haley to put Rising Sun in front. Martin Stillwell, Josh Backert, Michael Catena, Haley, and Jose Ramirez each added a goal. Catena, Logan Holtman, Ramirez, and Kate Watson each recorded an assist. Bryce Calhoun and Chris Orr each made one save while the Eagles' Gabe Schertz turned aside 22 Tiger shots. Rising Sun downed host Joppatowne 4-1 Tuesday, October 7. Brad Alexander gave the Tigers the lead a minute before halftime off n assist from Watson. Joppatowne tied it on a penalty kick before Rising Sun registered three unanswered goals. Backert, Stillwell, and Catena each scored with Backert and Stillwell adding an assist.
