The Elkton football team overcame three early fumbles and a plethora of penalties to pull away for a 28-10 triumph over visiting North East Friday night. The Elks (2-0) fumbled on their first three possessions and fell behind 3-0 on a 27-yard field goal by the Indians' Drake Bare with 5:08 left in the first quarter. Elkton responded right away. Nolan Null connected with Tashawn Watters for a 49-yard scoring strike to put the hosts ahead 7-3 just 55 seconds after the North East field goal. On the next Elks' possession a 20-yard TD pass from Null to Dah'mear Triplett was nullified by a holding penalty and they did not score.
Two more potential touchdowns were called back on the next Elkton drive, but this time, the Elks eventually converted. The big play was a 27-yard completion from Null to John Rhodan on 4th and 10 from the 28. After an illegal shift penalty, Triplett made a leaping grab of a Null pass in the end zone to make the score 14-3. Eli Perry promptly led North East downfield. Perry provided a 31-yard run on the drive and bulled his way into the end zone to complete a 12-yard TD jaunt to bring the Indians within 14-10 with 4:32 before halftime. Elkton was unable to score leading up to the pivotal point of the game. North East got the ball back with 2:39 left in the quarter with a chance to take the lead heading into intermission. Instead, the Elks' defense forced a quick three-and-out and Elkton took over on the Indians' 39 with 1:04 left. Null completed throws of 13 and 18 yards to Triplett and tossed an 11-yard TD pass to Michael Vass with 10.7 seconds left in the third quarter. The only points of the second half came on a 50-yard punt return by Trevin Ewing with 3:30 to go in the third quarter. Comments are closed.
