Elkton's girls lacrosse team led early and finished strong to post its third win of the season. The Elks ended up with a 17-9 victory over visiting Bo Manor last Thursday, April 27. Elkton head coach Kelly Zimmerman said she is hopeful this win will allow her team to turn the corner and give the players the push they need to improve their record. The Elks fired the first three goals giving them a foothold early on. Bo Manor was able to tie things up half way through the first period after Haley Criddle scored three goals. Elkton added six additional goals to bring them ahead of the Eagles (9-4) at the end of the first period. "They started meshing together on attack and took the opportunities to score," said Zimmerman. "We did exceptional with our transition, (and it) was the best its been in a while. Our goals were really thought out and a lot of them weren't forced. We had a lot of assists and a lot of different scorers," said Elkton captain Erin DePaul. The Eagles tried to make a comeback in the second period with goals from Mary-Alyce Carlyle, Criddle, Hayley Soukup, Olivia Wilson, and Lexi Cook. Elkton answered with eight additional goals to end the game. "I love that they (Bo Manor) never gave up because that is something that we're usually on the other side of and I teach my girls don't give up, you go go go," said Zimmerman. Elkton's DePaul captured six goals for the Elks. Anna Wolf scored three and had two assists. Savelle Brown and Vanessa Dunn each supplied a pair of goals. Fallon Katz nabbed 17 saves between the poles. "Everybody is contributing in some way and that is really important with the people on the side and nobody feels left out. Every player gets time (to play) and everybody is utilized in different ways and has a role," said Zimmerman. "We took a lot of time on attack and our fast breaks, so now its really time to hone in on the defense. Offensively we can score but we need to know how to stop them." Comments are closed.
