Jared Brustman tossed a complete game did not allow an earned run and the Perryville baseball team scored three runs in each of the first two innings en route to an 8-3 triumph over host North East Monday, April 18. Brustman fanned four and gave up five hits and one walk.
Freshman first baseman Mike Newsome had a double in both three-run rallies. Kody Brown walked to start the game. After a fielder's choice, Newsome doubled over the right fielder's head to put runners on second and third. With two outs, Brustman bunted for a hit to load the bases and Chris Wenck followed with a two-run single over the head of the second baseman. When the throw from the outfield came toward the plate, Wenck took off for second. The catcher's throw to second got away, enabling Brustman to score from third. In the second, Pernell White bounced a single to right and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Zach Strong. Brown singled up the middle to put runners on the corners. White was caught off third as Brown tried to steal second, but Silas Stevens fisted an RBI single to center to make it 4-0. Newsome followed with an RBI double that hit the left field foul line and Jake Eldreth knocked in a run with a single to right. North East tallied twice in the third. Chase Hollister led off with a single and scored on a two-out error. Patrick O'Brien and Eric Steele had consecutive singles to cut the Indians' deficit down to 6-2. North East crept closer in the home half of the sixth. A walk, single by Steele, and an error loaded the bases with no outs. Colt Price knocked in a run on a sacrifice fly, but Brustman retired the next two hitters to take a 6-3 lead into the seventh inning. Perryville tacked on a part of insurance runs in the seventh. Brown reached on a two-base error. Newsome drew a one-out walk, and Brown came in to score on an error. Brustman doubled down the left field line to cap the scoring and then closed out the game in the bottom of the frame. Comments are closed.
