In 2A girls, Rising Sun finished second in a tightly-contested battle with champion Easton and third place Kent Island. Easton (74) finished two places ahead of Rising Sun and Kent Island. The Tigers won the tiebreaker over Kent Island because Rising Sun's sixth finisher, Kiona Brady (27th), was ahead of the Buccaneers' sixth finisher, who was 33rd. "Am I happy with the performance? Yes," said Rising Sun coach Jim Burkhardt. "Am I excited? I wish we would've gotten the overall region title. In the end, we were very close. The girls pushed themselves and I was happy about that. Going into states, I think we're going to do excellent. They're real primed to definitely do better than their 14th place finish last year. So we'll see where it goes. We've been training for it all season, specifically for Hereford. So, we'll see." The Tigers' Alanah Bell finished fourth overall. "Alanah did a great job," Burkhardt said. "She got a fourth place finish. She projected to get around fourth place finish anyway so she ran her race and ran really well. I was impressed on how much my girls really stepped it up throughout the race. It was just a shame we were two places behind. It is what it is, but overall I'm very ecstatic." Kathryn Gearhart of Easton won the race in a time of 18:38, a minute ahead of second place finisher Emma Tvelia of Kent Island. Rising Sun runners: 4. Alanah Bell (20:47), 10. Emma Wheeler, 17. Danielle Lee, 21. Arianna Wheeler, 24. Katie Hindt, 27. Kiona Brady, 30. Brinley Farrall. The Tiger boys finished sixth in the team standings led by a fourth place finish by state qualifier Phil Hurm. North East's Nathan Galloway was second to earn a place at states. Elkton placed third in the team standings to qualify. The Elks' Evan Shrewsbury was 13th followed by Reece Roehsler (23), Cameron Spaeth (24), Nolan Clancy (29), Christian Burger (30), David Ramirez (42), and James Gravatt (53). The state meet takes place Saturday, November 14 at Hereford High School. The Class 1A girls race starts at 1:30 p.m. with 2A girls at 2, 1A boys at 2:30 and 2A boys at 3. Comments are closed.
