The Rising Sun girls basketball team stayed within striking distance but never quite got over the hump as Bohemia Manor topped the Tigers 44-38 Tuesday, January 30. The Eagles led 16-10 at the end of the first quarter and retained a single-digit advantage for the remainder of the game. It was a stark contrast to the meeting a week earlier when Bohemia Manor breezed to a 38-point victory. "I'm very proud of the girls," Rising Sun coach Kathy Stoudt said. "Very proud of them. I told them if we play like we did {against Bohemia Manor], we should be able to beat really anybody. We played with poise. We played with confidence. I'm very proud of them." Hanna Clarke paced the Eagles with 12 points and Megan Horsey had 11. Kendra Stamper supplied 15 for Rising Sun and Ally Bradford notched nine. The Tigers fared much better in the paint than they did in the previous matchup. "Gabrielle Vaughan is outmatched size-wise but she's more experienced now," said Stoudt. "She's at the end of her sophomore year and she's starting to play like an upperclassman. It was very impressive the way she played. She handled the inside very well." Rising Sun got a boost with the return of injured starting guard Kira Watson while Bohemia Manor was shorthanded this time around. "They didn't have [point guard] Kayla Thompson and she's arguably the best player in the county, so that helped us," Stoudt said. "But they're a very talented team so I'm very pleased with what we did." Rising Sun routed Edgewood 53-29 Monday night, January 29. Bradford poured in 22 points. Stamper, Venus Abosede, and Bella Barbato each added eight. JV and varsity photos
