UPDATE: Perryville plays North East in the district title game tonight (Thursday, June 26) at 6 p.m. at Perryville Little League. Perryville advanced to the championship round of the Little League Maryland District 5 Major Division softball tournament with a 14-3 triumph over Rising Sun Tuesday night, June 24. Perryville tallied twice in the top of the first inning to take the lead for good. Kristyn Gardner was hit by a pitch and Mara Little walked. Payton Jourdan reached on a fielder's choice to load the bases when Rising Sun made sure the runner on third did not try to score instead of throwing to first. Arianna Varela drove in the first run of the game and reached on an error. The first out was recorded when a Perryville runner left a base prior to a pitch. The next batter hit a comebacker and the Rising Sun pitcher threw home to catcher Madison Cooper for an out. Perryville scored its second run on an error.
Perryville added four more in the second. With one out, Kim Boatman was hit by a pitch, Gardner walked, and Little walked to load the bases. Jourdan walked to force in a run and Varela hit an RBI bloop single to make it 4-0. James walked in a run and another run scored on a wild pitch. Rising Sun got on the board in the bottom of the third. Ingrid Miller reached on an one-out infield hit. After a stolen base and strikeout, Mantyk bounced an RBI single and eventually scored on a wild pitch. Ahead 6-2, Perryville broke it wide open with eight runs in the top of the fifth. Abigail England started the rally with a single to center. Two runs scored on an error on a ball hit by Little. Jourdan and Abigail James each drove in a run on a groundout. Justine Bowman added an RBi single. Sarah Pender hit a pop double over the third base bag. Emily Wolf and Little each drew a bases loaded walk. Rising Sun scored a run in the bottom of the fifth when Miller blasted an inside-the-park homer over the head of the left fielder. Little recorded 10 strikeouts to pick up the victory. Perryville is scheduled to play Thursday at 6 p.m. against the team that emerges from the loser's bracket. Rising Sun returns to action tonight at 6 p.m. Comments are closed.
