Havre de Grace's Jordan White catches a touchdown pass over Elkton's John Rhoden in the third quarter of the Warriors' win Friday night. Havre de Grace scored 32 unanswered points in the second half to beat Elkton 39-14 Friday night in a battle of undefeated squads. Down 14-7, the visiting Warriors' outburst began when quarterback Alex Gresock hit Jordan Day for a 63-yard TD pass 2:48 into the third quarter. Elkton's Travas Smith blocked the extra point attempt to preserve a one-point edge for the Elks.
Havre de Grace took the lead for good at 19-14 with 6:07 left in the quarter when Sean Greeley scored from six yards out. The two-point conversion run failed. The Warriors extended their lead to 25-14 with 8:24 left in the game when Jordan White made a juggling catch in the end zone on a fade pattern. Elkton's last gasp came when reserve quarterback Jeffrey Day was stopped short of a first day on a 4th and 4 play near midfield with 5:47 to go. Gresock added a TD run with 3:53 left and Havre de Grace added another score with 2:51 to play. There were no indications of a Havre de Grace romp in the first half. Elkton seized the momentum when Raiquon Estep blocked a Clay Harris field goal attempt. Estep then scored from five yards out 1:02 into the second quarter. Havre de Grace responded with a 50-yard scoring strike from Gresock to Day. The Golden Elks regained the lead with a two-play drive to end the first half. Quarerback Ray Johnson connected with Michael Vass on a 38-yard TD pass on the final play of the first half. The score was set up by a 31-yard completion from Johnson to Estep. That would be Elkton's last points of the game. Comments are closed.
