The Perryville volleyball team is going to the state semifinals for the fourth year in a row. The Panthers captured the region title with a 25-11, 26-24, 25-13 win over host Colonel Richardson Friday evening. "I'm so proud of our team and the way we performed," coach Matt Borrelli said. "The girls played with great passion and determination. Everyone worked together and supported each other on the court." Rebekah Hanshaw had six kills, 10 aces, 21 service points, and 15 digs to pace Perryville. Teri Wennersten collected nine kills and 11 service points. Rose Porch provided 27 assists and Kaylan Smith added 18 digs. "Rebekah Hanshaw and Erin Murphy set the tone with their serving and Teri Wennersten was very strong at the net," Borrelli said. "Kaylan Smith had so many amazing digs in key situations and kept several plays alive for our offense." It is the seventh region title for the program. The Panthers are seeking their first state title. Perryville faces McDonough Tuesday night in the state semifinals at Ritchie Coliseum on the campus of the University of Maryland. "We are honored to represent Cecil County in the state semifinals," Borrelli said. "We are excited to be regional champions but we know this journey isn't over yet. We have two more games to reach our goal of a state championship." Perryville 3, Bohemia Manor 0 The Panthers continued its recent dominance of Bohemia Manor with a win over the visiting Eagles in a region semifinal match Wednesday night. The Panthers have won the last nine meetings between the schools over the last three seasons including three playoff wins. Wednesday's match lacked the same level of drama found in many of the previous matchups. Perryville prevailed 25-9, 25-22, 25-22. After a lopsided first set the feisty Eagles did make things interesting in the last two sets. The score was tied 21-21 in the second set before a kill by Teri Wennersten and an ace by Rose Porch put the Panthers ahead for good. Perryville led set three 22-16 before Bohemia Manor scored five straight to narrow the gap to one. But the Panthers scored the next point preventing the Eagles from tying it on the way to closing out the match. Wennersten finished with nine kills, 10 blocks, and 10 service points. Porch collected 16 assists and 11 service points. Kylie Shiflett supplied five kills, five digs, and seven service points. Kaylan Smith added five digs. Perryville 3, Joppatowne 0 The Panthers pummeled the Mariners 25-9, 25-7, 25-8 Monday, November 3. Rose Porch had 15 assists and two kills. Erin Murphy contributed 24 service points including seven aces. Kylie Shiflett supplied six kills. Comments are closed.
