The Perryville girls indoor track and field team captured its fifth straight 1A East Region title Monday, February 1, at PG Sports and Learning Complex in Landover. Alysa Conway won the 500 meter dash and teamed with Autumn Estep, Brooke Doane, and Ellie Kuhn to take the 4 x 400 relay.
Paiton Kelly earned a state title in the pole vault to lead a Panther sweep of the top three spots. Kuhn was second followed by Erika Scheppelmann. Jarah Cevis was the state champion in the shot put with Sarah Campbell eighth. Conway placed second in the 300 with Estep fourth and Katelyn Broughman eighth. Estep finished second in the 500 and was also second in the 4 x 200 relay with Doane, Kuhn, and Broughman. Estep was third in the 55 hurdles with Broughman fifth and Doane sixth. Broughman finished fifth in the high jump with Chloe McGraw seventh. Didem Akbay, Hannah Henson, Sydnie Heiman, and Kuhn combined to place sixth in the 4 x 800 relay. Henson was sixth in the 3200 with Kasey Sadler seventh and Heiman eighth. Conway was seventh in the 55 meter dash and Henson had an eighth place finish in the 1600. Cage Jones won a state title in the pole vault to help the Perryville boys finish fourth overall. Joe Rinehart placed second in the shot put and Alex Hernandez was third in the high jump. Jared Brustman finished fourth in both the 300 and 500 and teamed with Hernandez, his brother, James Brustman, and Jones to place fourth in the 4 x 400 relay. Eric Phillips was eighth in the 3200 and teamed with Jakob Hild, James Brustman, and Jakob Lewis to place eighth in the 4 x 800 relay. Athletes who placed in the top four in their events advance to the state meet which will be held February 15. Comments are closed.
