The Perryville girls lacrosse team is looking to take the next step and has a team capable of doing just that. The Panthers finished 10-2 last year, but were the Susquehanna Division runner-up for the second straight season and lost to Queen Anne's in the region title game again. The good news is Queen Anne's is no longer in the same region as Perryville although Fallston and Patterson Mill are.
Even better news is the Panthers have 13 returning players to chase those titles. Seniors Ally Remesch and Taylor Poore and junior Sydnie Bjork. Remesch anchors the defense while Poore and Bjork spearhead a potent Perryville offense. Remesch and Poore will both play at Salisbury next spring. Senior Cali Tyson returns in goal where she will split time with sophomore Abbie Jones. Jones is also capable of playing a field position. Returners Taylor DiPietro and Emma Beynon will be key contributors on defense. The Panthers are also counting on sophomore Kristen Leonard. Poore, a tremendous all-around player, leads the list of midfielders. She tallied 42 goals and 13 assists last season and has 95 goals over the last two years. Perryville will depend on returners Gabby Frederick and Didem Akbay and freshman Maddie Carr. Bjork, a junior, will spark an explosive offense with help from sophomore Bea Muscella and junior Gillian Bumba. Bjork has 116 goals in her career, including 46 last year. Muscella scored 30 goals in her rookie season. "Led by the seniors, the team is always working hard to see how to improve," coach Mary Dunman said. "They are building their legacy. So far, their legacy is pretty good." Dunman praises assistant coaches Cayla Weller, Lyndsey Scott, and Nick Merrill, and volunteer coaches Dave Bjork and Salli Muscella. The head coach is confident her squad will reach its potential. "They have been working hard," Dunman said. "They'll do the best they can." Comments are closed.
