The Perryville cross country team’s head coach Raissa Moore is optimistic heading into the season. The Panther girls finished fifth at the state meet last fall and return three runners who placed in the Top 34, led by seniors Aleah Losoya (12th) and Allison Morris (18th). Morris has taken on a leadership role. "Alli has really put in her time," Moore said. "You can see the growth in her four years here and see how committed she is to the team. It's evident every day. I'm really happy about that."
Junior Kayla Losoya was 34th at the state meet. Moore said several other juniors have worked hard over the summer – Hannah Henson, Kasey Sadler, Hannah Campbell, and Sydnie Heiman. "You can see what two years of experience has done for them," Moore said. "They're more serious about running than ever before." Freshmen Ellie Kuhn, Kailee McCutchen, and Marina Jones have been impressive in the preseason. "They all came in after a very good summer of training," said Moore. Senior Matt Salvatore finished 16th at last fall's state meet and the Panthers' team placed eighth. The coach said senior Gabe Gonzalez has continued to improve. Seniors Silas Stevens and Brenden Heroux (62nd at the state meet) add experience. "They know what it takes as a team to get back there," Moore said. "They take every day seriously." Junior Craig Seibert was 44th at last fall's state meet. Junior Jake Taylor will also contribute. Taylor showed potential as a freshman but did not run last season. Sophomores Jakob Lewis and Alex Hernandez and freshmen Eric Phillips, Jamie McCrary, and Brian Keenan have each shown promise. Moore says she likes the makeup of both squads. "We have good senior leadership with lots of experience and young and eager runners soaking it all in. They're ready for the challenge." Comments are closed.
