Perryville boys basketball coach Charles Givens Sr. hopes familiarity breeds contentment. The Panthers return their top three players from last season as well as several other key contributors. Dynamic senior TyRell Hollingsworth will lead the way. He enters the season 38 points shy of 1,000. "I expect the same type of performance as last year and even more," said Givens. "He has experience and with that experience comes performance that is even better. This is his last go round and he's going to want to leave his mark on the floor."
Hollingsworth will also be a team leader but won't have to bear that burden alone. Senior guards Elijah Johnson and Tony Smith will also help share the scoring responsibilities and both players are capable of handling the ball. The Panthers will also rely on Tyleke Johnson who is coming off a solid season. Marquis Topp, a transfer from Rising Sun, should help. Chad Burchett, who was hampered by an injury last year, is expected to contribute. DeShawn Bryant, Bobby Monk and Pernell White will chip in. Givens says his goals for the team are simple. "Number one, go out and have fun," he said. "It's the last go round for the seniors and it's an opportunity for each of them to go out on top and have the type of season they should have – a winning record and show they can play offense and defense and be competitive."
