Amanda Haraldsson doesn't remember how many goals she scored last year other than to say "not many." Last Thursday, Haraldsson had a game she won't soon forget. The junior forward tallied three times to propel the Rising Sun field hockey team to a 5-1 triumph over Perryville at Calvert Regional Park. "I think it's because of my team," Haraldssson said. "They helped. They passed it where I was at the right place at the right time."
It was an impressive debut for the Tigers. Haraldsson said Rising Sun excelled in "talking, passing, [and] being encouraging. Being at the right place. Doing what we did best." Rising Sun coach Katie Keyes said Haraldsson did a good job of maintaining proper positioning. "We were talking a lot about staying on the post," said Keyes. "Getting the ball first then doing something with it. She obviously did that. She's playing with confidence which is good." After Haraldsson put the Tigers ahead, Perryville tied it on an Ellen Little goal. Biz Hurm scored off a corner to give Rising Sun a 2-1 halftime lead. Brianna Frazier extended the Tigers' lead to 3-1 with 21:35 left and Haraldsson tacked on a pair of insurance tallies. "We were going to the ball. We were distributing the ball well," Keyes said. "Putting pressure in the circle. We were enthusiastic." Keyes was pleased with her squad's performance but says there is plenty of work left to do. "It definitely gives us confidence but we always have things to work on and improve on," Keyes said. "So I definitely think playing our first game on the [artificial] turf is helpful because we're going to have several games on the turf. Sometimes the things we need to work on are pretty glaring on the turf. It was a great game but we definitely have things to work on." Comments are closed.
