Chesapeake City Little League captured the 9-10 softball District 5 title by defeating North East 7-3 Saturday afternoon in Perryville.
North East's Madison Culver singled to knock in Sydney Webster in the top of the first but Chesapeake City took the lead for good in the bottom of the second. Perryville Little League's Senior Division baseball All-Stars scored 14 runs in the top of the fifth on the way to eliminating North East 16-2 in five innings Sunday morning in Havre de Grace.
North East overcame a 6-0 deficit by scoring 10 unanswered runs to defeat Rising Sun 10-6 in a 9-10 District 5 baseball game Tuesday night in Chesapeake City.
Down 6-0 entering the bottom of the second inning, North East scored eight runs, all with two outs. Evan England and Ryan James each hit a two-run single. North East tied it on an RBI single by Luke Keefer and took the lead on a two-run hit by Xian Molitor. The Perryville All-Stars opened the District 5 Senior baseball tournament with a 4-2 triumph over North East Thursday evening at Stancil Park in Havre de Grace.
Perryville's Zach Strong came on in relief with the bases loaded and one out in the second and his team trailing 2-0. In 6 2/3 innings of work, Strong struck out 12 and allowed just two hits to earn the victory. In Junior Division baseball, Havre de Grace nipped North East 1-0 to claim the district title. The North East All-Stars eliminated Rising Sun from the Little League Maryland District 5 Junior Division baseball tournament with a 15-11 triumph Monday evening. Winning pitcher Chase Hollister had four hits, including two doubles, and finished with three RBIs. Drake Bare (two-run double) and Eric Steele (two hits) each had two RBIs and scored three runs. Tyeler Buchanan, Chase Klein, Colin Balthaser, and Mason Rice each had an RBI. Patrick O'Brien, Sebastian Nagovich, Dylan Armstrong, and Luke Hamilton each supplied a hit. Others were celebrating a district championship for the first time. Together they claimed the 2014 Little League Maryland District 5 crown with a 4-2 triumph over North East Monday night in Havre de Grace. The Rising Sun All-Stars romped to an 18-2 triumph over North East in four innings in the Little League Maryland District 5 10-11 baseball tournament being played in Rising Sun. Jon Valentine collected four hits and six RBIs and Sam Hogue belted a homer to help the Rising Sun offense. Perryville fought off a feisty North East squad 7-6 in seven innings to capture the Little League Maryland District 5 Major Division softball tournament Thursday night at Trego Field. North East, who needed to beat Perryville twice to claim the crown, trailed 5-1 before rallying for four runs in the bottom of the sixth. Perryville responded with two in the top of the seventh before hanging on to claim the district banner. Sarah Pender started the seventh inning with an opposite field single to left and promptly stole second. Krystyn Gardner followed with a little popup between the plate and the circle that went for an infield hit. Mara Little then roped the first pitch to left for an RBI single. After the runners moved up on a passed ball, Payton Jourdan plated a run with a fielder's choice grounder to first as Gardner was ruled to have slid under the tag at the plate. Rising Sun and Chesapeake City are the two unbeaten teams after the first two days of the Little League Maryland District 5 9-10 baseball tournament being played at Biles Field in Rising Sun. They are scheduled to meet tonight (Thursday, June 26), at 5:30 p.m.
The winner of that game advances to the championship round Monday night at 5:30. Elkton and Havre de Grace play Friday at 5:30 in the losers bracket. Wednesday, June 25 Elkton 8, Perryville 1 Kyle Polaski, Adam Pressler, and Kaiden Mellott combined on a one-hitter for Elkton. |
