When Rich Wilson started coaching volleyball 21 years ago, he admittedly had no idea what he was doing.
Two state titles and 211 wins later, it’s apparent he has learned a great deal along the way. Kendie Hudson hoped to return to Cecil County to teach and coach.
Her dreams were realized quickly. Just a few months removed from Elizabethtown College graduation, Hudson accepted a math teaching position at North East High and is the head varsity field hockey coach for the Indians. Jake Moore, who guided the Perryville High track and field and cross country programs from relative obscurity to state supremacy, has stepped down from his teaching and coaching responsibilities to accept an administration position in Chester County, Pa.
Moore will be an assistant principal at Kennett Middle School in Landenberg, part of the Kennett Consolidated School District. He got a contingency offer several days ago but his Pennsylvania certification had not been processed. The official offer came yesterday at 4 p.m. and he accepted immediately. Moore informed the Perryville team this morning following the first cross country practice of the season. Rusty Moore moved from one perennial softball power to another steeped in tradition.
The former Perryville High coach is now in charge of the Rising Sun program. During his tenure with the Panthers, games against the Tigers were the most meaningful regular season contests. It's been a long, eventful trip for Cory Hall.
Wrestling has led the 1996 Rising Sun High School graduate from coast to coast and back home again. Now Hall is in charge of the program which launched his journey. Don Passenant is the new Rising Sun boys basketball coach.
He replaces Matt Haack, who coached the Tigers for three seasons before accepting a teaching position in his home state of Michigan. It was an offer too good for Rising Sun boys basketball coach Matt Haack to pass up.
Haack resigned his coaching post and teaching job at North East High to accept a job in his home state of Michigan. Haack has accepted a science teaching position near Grand Rapids, not too far from where he was raised. He had always considered the possibility of going back home. It's been an eventful week for Katie Keyes.
On Wednesday, Keyes gave birth to her third child, a daughter. Today, Keyes was named head field hockey coach at her alma mater – Rising Sun High School. Julie Eller has stepped down from her post as Rising Sun High field hockey coach. "It's an issue of time," Eller said Saturday morning. "I have a lot more responsibility at school and I'm trying to get my Master's degree." Eller, a social studies teacher at Rising Sun Middle School, served as head coach for two seasons after one year as an assistant. "I'm going to miss the girls," she said. Eller, who played for the Tigers, says she still plans to stay involved with the sport. "With what free time I do have, I'm going to be working with the middle school girls and trying to build the feeder program back up, get the girls interested in the game and teach them some basic skills. Hopefully the high school team will reap the benefits." Rising Sun High School athletic director George Hildebran said he hopes to have a replacement by the end of the school year. "We're going to miss Julie," Hildebran said. "She did very well." The softball season got an unofficial kickoff Wednesday, February 12 as new Rising Sun coach Pete Veasey met with his players in the school cafeteria. Veasey comes to Rising Sun after spending last year as the head coach at Delcastle Tech and the two seasons prior to that at Pencader Charter. The Elkton resident, a facilities supervisor for Target Corporation, was recently transferred from Wilmington to Abingdon. |
