It should be an exciting season for the Rising Sun girls basketball team. Coach Kathy Stoudt says she has the most talented team since she took over three years ago. The Tigers return four starters from last year's team which went 16-6 before being beaten by eventual state champion Patterson Mill in the regional semifinals (section final). Senior guard Brooke Bower will lead the way. Bower averaged 16 points a game last season "She's definitely the best player in the county," said Stoudt. "We're thrilled to have her back." Paige Bradford, a double-figure scorer last year, will team with Bower to give the Tigers a dynamic backcourt. Their athleticism creates steals and easy baskets to spark the Tigers offense. Small forward Lexi Osborne is back healthy and gives Rising Sun another scoring option and additional ball handler. "Lexi has played a ton of basketball in the offseason," said Stoudt. "We expect her to have a great year and add a lot to our offense." Forward Courtney Spangler, a captain with Bower, brings leadership. "Courtney is scrappy underneath the basket and plays smart," said Stoudt. Sophomore Abby Mack will move into the starting lineup at center, replacing the graduated Taylor Allen. Mack is coming off an impressive freshman season. "Abby has lots of skill in the post," said Stoudt. "She's a true post player. She works hard and is aggressive. She is a great addition to the starting lineup." Kaytlen Nugent, a transfer from Texas, will have an impact. "She will definitely help us out," Stoudt said. Returner Caitlin Shober has varsity experience. "Caitlin will contribute off the bench," Stoudt said. The Tigers were second in the Susquehanna Division last season behind Fallston. "I'd love to win the division," said Stoudt. "Fallston's not in it this year but overall it should be more challenging. We're going to try to live up the expectations we place on ourselves and expectations others place on us." Rising Sun will open with their stiffest test of the season when two-time reigning state champion Aberdeen visits Friday, December 5. "We want to be competitive every time we step on the floor," said Stoudt. "This should be the most talented team I've had here." Comments are closed.
