Rising Sun Little League stayed alive in the 9-10 baseball tournament by hanging for a 6-5 triumph over Perryville in a rain-shortened game Thursday in Chesapeake City.
Chesapeake City Little League advanced to the championship round of the 9-10 baseball tournament by downing Rising Sun 12-9 Friday.
Chesapeake City needs two straight wins over undefeated Elkton to claim the crown, starting Saturday morning at 11. Leading 9-1 after 2 1/2 innings, Chesapeake City survived a few anxious moments over the final frames. Elkton Little League captured the District 5 Senior Division baseball tournament by posting a second straight one-run victory over Rising Sun. Elkton triumphed 3-2 Wednesday night in Rising Sun to claim the crown after winning 7-6 the previous night. The game was tied at 2-2 entering the bottom of the sixth. Kyle Spencer drew a walk to get things started. Dane Ravel came on in relief of Rising Sun starter Jake Keane and Victor Norris greeted him by drilling an RBI double to right. Rising Sun right fielder Hunter Cole made a diving attempt but the ball tipped off the end of his glove. Elkton won the District 5 Senior Division baseball title by defeating Rising Sun 3-2 Wednesday night. Story and photos coming Thursday.
Elkton Little League's Senior baseball team scored a run in the top of the seventh to top previously undefeated Rising Sun 7-6 and force a decisive game for the district title.
The championship contest is scheduled for 5:30 today at Stancill Park in Havre de Grace. Kyle Spencer was a hit by a pitch to start the seventh. Victor Norris laid down a bunt up the first base line. Rising Sun pitcher Nate McCullough field the ball and tagged out Norris. He then flipped a throw toward second base but the ball sailed into centerfield, enabling Spencer to take third. Olivia Wheel tossed a shutout as the Elkton Little League Major Division softball All-Stars captured the District 5 title by defeating Chesapeake City 6-0 Monday, July 6, in North East.
Perryville Little League's Senior Division baseball All-Stars scored 14 runs in the top of the fifth on the way to eliminating North East 16-2 in five innings Sunday morning in Havre de Grace.

Perryville's Carly White never found out what it's like to lose a District 5 softball tournament.
On Thursday night at Eder Park, White collected three hits and five RBIs as Perryville won the Senior Division softball title with a 13-3 triumph over Elkton in five innings. Elkton captured the District 5 Junior Division softball title by rallying for five runs in the bottom of the sixth to defeat Rising Sun Thursday night at Eder Park.
Rising Sun, which needed successive wins over Elkton to win the title, led 5-3 entering the decisive frame. |
