The Perryville volleyball team defeated visiting Bohemia Manor 3-1 Wednesday night.
The Panthers prevailed 25-12, 25-23, 24-26, 25-22. Morgan Tennant collected 22 assists, 17 service points, nine aces, five digs, and four kills. Emily Merklinger recorded 14 kills, 14 service points, six aces, and two digs. Caitlin Davidson supplied 12 service points, three aces, three kills, and two digs. Kylie Shiflett had four kills and two digs. The Perryville boys soccer team dropped a 4-0 decision to visiting C. Milton Wright Wednesday afternoon.
The Perryville football team is on another streak. But this time, it's a losing streak. Visiting Havre de Grace spoiled the Panthers' Homecoming with a stunning 23-13 triumph Thursday night. Trailing 14-7, the injury-plagued Panthers scored on a six-yard run by Elijah Johnson with 4:06 left in the third quarter. With kicker Josh Bargsten out with an injury suffered earlier in the game, Perryville tried for a two-point conversion but came up inches short of the endzone. The Panthers' defense then stopped the Warriors on a 4th and goal from the three. But on the next play, a low shotgun snap went out of the endzone for a safety to up the Havre de Grace lead to 16-13. The Warriors added a touchdown and PAT with 6:38 left in the game and the Panthers turned the ball over twice in the final six minutes. Perryville had won the last two meetings in the Susquehanna Bowl rivalry. The Panthers also had won 25 straight regular season games before falling to C. Milton Wright last week. Tyler Pollitt of Perryville won individual honors by carding a 77 and Bohemia Manor captured the team title for the first time at the county golf tournament Tuesday, October 15 at Chesapeake Bay Golf Club of Rising Sun.
The Rising Sun field hockey team fell 7-0 to North East Monday night at Rullo Stadium on the campus of the University of Delaware.
Molly Clewer scored three goals for the Indians. Natalie Hack tallied twice and Jamie Womack and Carly Hollinger each added a goal. The Rising Sun field hockey team defeated host Havre de Grace 3-1 Friday evening.
The Warriors took an early lead before Devon Wesley tied it. Megan Haraldsson and Kelsey Perkins added goals for the Tigers. Emily Easter, Brianna Bailey, and Wesley each notched an assist. The Tigers also posted a 1-0 triumph over Bohemia Manor last Wednesday. Bailey scored the game-winner eight minutes into the second half off an assist from Lorrie Bowman. Josh Anderson ran 10 yards for a touchdown in the third overtime period to give the Rising Sun football team a 6-3 triumph over host North East in the rain and mud Friday night. The Indians had taken a 3-0 lead on the first possession of the third OT on a field goal by Sam Smithmyer. Anderson blasted up the middle on the next play to give the Tigers the win in the battle of winless teams. The Tigers had a touchdown called back by a penalty in the first OT and missed two field goals. Rising Sun also had a regulation touchdown wiped out by a penalty. The Indians also missed a field goal in the first OT. Anderson recovered a fumble to thwart North East in the second OT. The Tigers had lost six games in a row dating back to last year and 15 of its last 16. Both of Rising Sun's last two victories had come against Harford Tech. The Tigers prevailed 25-15, 25-19, 25-14 in the battle of division leaders. Rising Sun reeled off the first five points of the match and never looked back. Bailey Hook had a team-high 10 kills. Lacey Swartout added seven and setter Anna Caldwell collected four. Caldwell also recorded 17 assists, 11 digs and four aces. Hook and Rachel Bowles each added three aces. Morgan Tennant registered nine assists, six service points, four aces, four kills, and two digs. Emily Merklinger notched eight kills and six digs. Kylie Shiflett supplied nine digs and Kelley Bateman served seven points. Bohemia Manor's Lane Brooks scored four straight second half goals to help her team overcome a 3-0 deficit and put a damper on Perryville's Senior Night Wednesday.
Tori Antoshak tallied twice for the Panthers. Antoshak and Leonard each scored a first-half goal and Antoshak scored early in the second half for a 3-0 edge. |
