Perryville senior Chris Brown capped off his record-setting career with a state championship. Brown defeated Snow Hill's Camden Fischer 3-0 in the 120-pound final to finish the season with a record of 42-0. Brown's closest call came in the semifinals Saturday morning when he needed overtime to post a 9-1 triumph over Cody Matthews of Mountain Ridge. The Rising Sun girls basketball team recorded its first playoff win in five years Tuesday night. The Tigers topped visiting Harford Tech 54-39. "It was wonderful" junior forward Courtney Spangler said. "The whole team came together. We finally won our first playoff game in five years which is a big deal. Coach told us at practice the other day that she wanted us to win. This team. And that's exactly what we came to do. And that's exactly what we did." Six Cecil wrestlers captured a region wrestling title Saturday at North Caroline High.
Rising Sun's Joe Juergens earned his third region crown. Perryville's Chris Brown and Bohemia Manor's Jake Trybus each won a second title while the Eagles' Cody Trybus and Kyle Trybus and the Tigers' Nelson Phillips prevailed for the first time. The most important strategic maneuver in the Perryville boys basketball team's playoff win over visiting Bohemia Manor wasn't made by Panthers coach Charles Givens Sr. The Perryville girls basketball team was ousted from the postseason with a 52-40 loss to visiting Colonel Richardson Friday night.
The Panthers got in foul trouble early. The game's first eight fouls were whistled against Perryville. Teri Wennersten picked up her third foul with 6:36 left in the first half. |
