Marie E. Pugh, 80, of Oxford, PA, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, December 19, 2023 at her daughter’s home, Nottingham, PA.
She was the wife of Robert H. Pugh with whom she shared 62 years of marriage. Born in Little Britain, she was the daughter of the late Floyd Martin and Annie Lennie Belle Greer Hardy. She was employed with Bethany Christian School, Oxford as a secretary and formerly employed with Neuchatel Chocolatier, Oxford. Marie enjoyed sewing and gardening. Naomi G. England, age 92 of Oxford, passed away on December 19, 2023. She was the wife of the late Ernest England. She was born in Fulton Township on June 29, 1931, daughter of the late Lester and Bessie Griest. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, flower gardening, and she loved dogs. She is survived by her son Steve, with whom she lived, a daughter, Lari Beth wife of William C. Nuse Jr. of Smithport, PA, 6 grandchildren: Chris England husband of Tina of Nottingham, Justin England husband of Lauren of Colorado, Jared England husband of Michelle of Colorado, Elizabeth Nuse of Lancaster, Jessica Nuse of Lancaster, Walter England husband of Amanda of Nottingham, Baillee Priset wife of Derrick of LaGrange, Georgia, and 8 great grandchildren. Betty J. Trout, 92, of Oxford, passed away on December 18, 2023. She was the loving wife of the late Ralph C. Trout, with whom she shared 50 years of marriage at the time of his passing in 1997. Born in Oxford, she was the daughter of the late Lester Stilwell and the late Golda (Lineberry) Duncan. Betty was employed by the Gross School Bus Company as a school bus driver. She transported students in the Oxford School District and retired with 40 years of service. Betty was known for being an excellent baker. In her spare time, she liked to crochet beautiful doilies. She also looked forward to having a vibrant flower garden each year. She was a long-time member of Bethany Orthodox Presbyterian Church of Oxford. Bonnie E. Doulin, age 81 of Holtwood, passed away on Monday, December 18, 2023 at the Lancaster General Hospital. She was the wife of the late Marvin F. Doulin, Jr. who passed away on March 16, 2017. Born in Drumore, she was the daughter of the late Perry C. and Sarah Grube Lefever. She worked as a mechanic and notary for Doulin’s Garage. Bonnie loved NASCAR, fishing in the Delaware Bay, her dog Molly and her Ford Broncos. Surviving are 4 children; Bonnie, wife of the late Charlie Balentine of Holtwood, John, husband of Tammy Lefever of Quarryville, Karen, wife of Bill Alexander of Pequea, and Jeff Lefever of Pequea, 6 grandchildren; Billy, husband of Mary Alexander, Johnny, husband of Jess Lefever, Steven Anderson, Brian Alexander, Jason, husband of Paige Lefever, and Emily Alexander, 3 great-grandchildren; Owen, Ellee and Liam, and 4 siblings; Richard, husband of Audrey Lefever of Peach Bottom, George Lefever of Leola, Rose, wife of Rocky Leed of Stevens, and Wendy Jo, wife of Will Trimble of Drumore. Louise Augusta Victoria (Zeitler) Witmer, 97, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 14, 2023 with her family at her side at The Glen at Willow Valley Communities. Louise was born in Ashland, Wisconsin on April 1, 1926. She was the daughter of the late Peter and Elizabeth Zeitler, who had emigrated to the USA in 1923 from the village of Theta near Bayreuth, Germany. After her family moved to Dublin, PA and Elkton, MD, they settled in Glasgow, DE, where she graduated from Newark (DE) High School. The family developed Zeitler Farms, a large (for its time) well-regarded purebred Guernsey dairy farm. Louise loved all animals and was heavily involved with the care and management of the young stock. A group of Lancaster County Guernsey Breeders visited Zeitler Farms in 1950. Among the group was Raymond F. Witmer. Louise (shyly) caught his eye, and the rest is history, 61 years of marriage. Raymond and Louise partnered to develop and operate Penn Del Farm (the farm on which he was born), a nationally recognized purebred Guernsey farm located along Beaver Valley Pike, in Strasburg Township, for 36 years. They developed numerous milk production records and award-winning animals. Most prominent was Penn Del Farm’s pride and joy, Penn Del Vesuvius Glenna, a three-time national champion cow. Louise and Raymond were recognized in many dairy-related business circles including at the county, state, and national levels. Chester Elias Wissler, Jr., 92, of Holtwood, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 17, 2023. Born in Mt. Nebo, he was the son of the late Chester E. Sr., and Hattie B. (Wissler) Wissler. He was the loving husband of Jane (Cauler) Wissler for 68 years. Chet was born and raised in Mt. Nebo and was a life-long member of Mt. Nebo United Methodist Church. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, having served in the Korean War. He went on to work for the former RCA, retiring after 35 years of employment. He spent 25 years serving with the Millersville Area Meals on Wheels. Chet and Jane traveled extensively throughout the United States and parts of Europe and also took mission trips to Africa. Chet was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed spending time at R.B. Winter State Park and the family cabin in Clinton County. Above all, he loved being with his family. Maryellen Rosetti Stoccardo, a resident of Little Britain, peacefully passed away on Friday, December 15, 2023. She was married to Joseph Stoccardo and was born in Philadelphia to Daniel and Mary McConnell Begley. Maryellen worked as an LPN at Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community and was a devoted supporter and fierce advocate for animals. She found joy in antiquing alongside her Sister-in-law and close friend Janet, as well as refurbishing antique furniture. Maryellen had an extraordinary sense of humor and constantly strived to better herself. She was an inspiration to those who loved her. Julia A. Bradley, 85, of New Providence, entered into rest on Wednesday, December 13, 2023, at the Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community. Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Harold and Helen (Rineer) Trout. She was the loving wife of Richard H. Bradley for 66 years. Julia was a retired hairdresser. She was a member of the former St. Paul’s Church in Quarryville and the Robert Fulton Chapter # 446 Order of the Eastern Star. Julia was so loving, loyal and hardworking; with a great sense of humor that always left you with a smile on your face. She leaves behind many fond memories. She was known for taking care of everyone around her because she loved people and wanted everyone to be happy. First and foremost, she was a wonderful mother. My brother and I were so blessed that she was ours. Robert L. Duvall, Sr., age 90, of Willow Valley Square, Lancaster, PA passed away at the Glen at Willow Valley on Monday, December 11, 2023. He was the husband of the late Shirley A. Smith Duvall who died March 22, 2010. Born in Toughkenamon, PA he was the son of the late John M. and Ethel M. Trimble Duvall. Bob’s working career was in the automobile business. He first started working for H.H. Wiggins in Lancaster in 1950. He then moved to their dealership in Quarryville in 1955 and became their general manager. In 1975, he purchased the business and operated it as Duvall Chevrolet until its closing in 2008. Bob proudly served his county in the 24th Infantry Division of the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Slumbering Groundhog Lodge and the American Legion Post #603, Quarryville. His enjoyments and interests were hunting, fishing, local car races, NASCAR, and baseball especially the Baltimore Orioles and Cincinnati Reds. William Daniel Fisher, age 93, entered the Church Triumphant at Lancaster PA on December 11, 2023. Bill was the loving husband of the late Barbara Smith Fisher who died September 27, 2020 after 67 years of marriage. Born in Quarryville on January 17, 1930, he was the son of the late Veryl C. and Mazie Reinhart Fisher. Bill was a devoted man with a passion for integrity and hard work. He dedicated his time to his education, his career, his community, his church and his family. Bill grew up in Quarryville and was the Class President of the first graduating class of 1948 from Quarryville High School where he played baseball and basketball. He was the co-winner of the Outstanding Athletic Award at graduation. He was President of the Leader’s Club (student council) and served as Youth Day Mayor of Quarryville on the Groundhog Party Ticket. Following high school, Bill graduated from Franklin and Marshall College with a BS degree in 1952 where he also played baseball. He then received a Graduate Degree from the Stonier Graduate School of Banking, Rutgers University in 1964. At Rutgers, Bill studied law under Dr. Austin Scott, the “Father” of the Trust & Estate Industry. Following his college education Bill entered the US Army. He spent two years at Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Maryland where he served as an instructor in Ordnance School teaching Ammunition Renovation, Repair and Explosive Ordnance Demolition. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant. |
