Alice G. (Eggers) Mullins, 95, of Quarryville, entered into rest on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community. Born in Demascus, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Alexander and Julia (Stout) Eggers. She was married to the late Curtis F. Mullins for 72 years at the time of his passing. Alice was a member of Nottingham Missionary Baptist Church. She had been a cafeteria worker in the Oxford School District. She enjoyed cooking for her family, crochet and spending time with her grandchildren. Alice is survived by 2 children: Joyce, wife of Gerry Letterman of Quarryville and Ronald, husband of Jewell Mullins of Oxford. Also 4 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. She was the youngest of 7 siblings who preceded her in death. Rose Marie Chase, 83, of Latham Road, Nottingham, PA died unexpectedly at her residence on Thursday, November 1, 2018. Born in West Grove, PA she was the daughter of the late E. Harvey and Avis E. Thompson Chase. Rose had been employed as a real estate agent for over 10 years. Rose dedicated her motherly care to her handicapped daughter, Jill Chase Eshleman who was the first child ever to be brought home from the hospital on a ventilator. A devoted naturalist, she was a founder of the “Concerned Citizens of West Nottingham Township” and worked diligently with the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources to establish the William Penn State Forest in Southeastern Pennsylvania. As a result of her hard work, a trail through the park was named after her “Rose Trail”. Austyn Robert Leed, 2 day old infant son of Roger L. Leed, Jr. and Amanda Townsend, entered into rest on Monday, October 29, 2018 at Women and Babies Hospital.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by 7 siblings: Madisyn, Olivia, Trentyn, Jeffrey, George, Avelyn, Brynn; Also surviving are maternal grandparents, Jean and Fred Townsend and paternal grandparents, Roger and Janice Leed and Trina Marie Leed. On October 31st, Betty Maye Kreider left this earth to join her heavenly family. She was born October 17, 1927 and was the oldest child of W. Percy and Frances (Lefever) Fisher. Formerly from Lancaster, she passed away while residing at Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community. She reached her 91st birthday this year and celebrated 72 years of marriage with her husband Clair in June 2017. She graduated a year early from Quarryville High School because of her excellent student academics. On June 30th, 1945 she married Clair Kreider, Sr. and became a farmer’s wife and a domestic goddess. Along with her farming chores, she loved working in the garden and growing lots of flowers. She was a great cook and loved to sew and quilt. Raising her children and babysitting her grandchildren were the highlights of her life. Her faith was an important part of her life. She taught Sunday School for many years and helped with Vacation Bible School and on the kitchen committee. She and Clair were deacons for years and charter members of the Lampeter Church of the Brethren. She sang duets with Clair and sang in the mixed chorus at Mechanic Grove and Lampeter COB. She was chairwoman of the flower tent for many years at the Solanco Fair. She also enjoyed being a member of the Classy Cardinal Red Hat Ladies. Lawrence A. Waltman, 100, of West Grove, passed away Monday, October 29, 2018 at home. He was the husband of the late Hazel Flannery Waltman. Born in West Grove, he was the son of the late G. Roy and Laura Quimby Waltman. Lawrence, with his family and father, helped to build and operate Sunset Park, Jennersville for 56 years. He also owned and operated a dairy farm in Jennersville. Lawrence was a Charter Member and first President of Oxford Hunt Club, Charter Member and President of Home and Farm Home Antique Assoc., Charter Member of John Deere Waterloo Boys, President of Avon Grove Alumni Assoc., President of Chester County Dairymen Coop, member of Country Music Assoc. and Country and Bluegrass Music Assoc., and was a member of the Oxford Lodge #353 F. & A. M. for over 50 years. He served as Penn Township School Director, Avon-Grove School Board and President, Board of Governors of West Grove Community Hospital and Chairman of Penn Township Planning Commission. In 1988, Lawrence received the Lions Annual Service Award. James Amand Hess, 82, of Quarryville, died on October 31, 2018 at home after a long illness. He was born on the family farm in Strasburg Twp., the son of the late Elvin W. Hess, Sr., and Anna A. Hess. He was married to Virginia Hassel Hess for 55 years. Jim was a charter member and past president of the Wakefield Lions Club where he was a recipient of the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award. He was a life member of the Pennsylvania and National Holstein Clubs, and was an International Farm Youth Exchangee in 1959-60 to Peru. He served as a board member and congressional spokesman for the Lancaster County Farm Bureau for many years. He was a past board member of the Solanco Fair Association and his family showed their Sea Green Holsteins there for many years. William E. McGraw, Jr., age 48, of Elkton, MD, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, October 23, 2018. William loved the Lord with all his heart and was passionate about sharing Jesus with others. He loved ministering to young people. William was also a family man who cherished each one, especially the grandchildren. He enjoyed fishing, painting, and drawing. |
