James Amand Hess, 82, of Quarryville, died on October 31, 2018 at home after a long illness. He was born on the family farm in Strasburg Twp., the son of the late Elvin W. Hess, Sr., and Anna A. Hess. He was married to Virginia Hassel Hess for 55 years. Jim was a charter member and past president of the Wakefield Lions Club where he was a recipient of the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award. He was a life member of the Pennsylvania and National Holstein Clubs, and was an International Farm Youth Exchangee in 1959-60 to Peru. He served as a board member and congressional spokesman for the Lancaster County Farm Bureau for many years. He was a past board member of the Solanco Fair Association and his family showed their Sea Green Holsteins there for many years. Jim is survived by his wife, Virginia, and three children, Susan M., married to John Kuhn, of Columbia, Mark J., and Sarah L., both of Quarryville. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Eileen Thomas, and brothers, Elvin Jr., J. Robert, and Richard Hess.
