Jack E. Fisher, 88, of Mine Road Paradise, PA died Sunday, November 11, 2018 at his residence. He was the husband of Ann M. Lefever Fisher. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Percy W. and Francis Elizabeth Lefever Fisher. Jack had been employed as a truck driver, driving for Graham’s Moving & Transfer Company, Esbenshade’s Turkey Farm and for High Steel Structures from which he retired. His CB handle was “Gentle Jack”. Following his retirement, he provided transportation to the Amish Community. Jack enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, NASCAR racing and most of all, his family. Surviving beside his wife Ann are 4 children, Deborah Jonelle (Terry) Harnish of Lancaster, Jacqueline Suzanne (Daniel) Kramer of Strasburg, Alan Eugene (Paula Hetrick) Oswald of Georgetown, Connie Elizabeth (George E.) Stevenson of Lancaster; grandchildren Chad (Anne) Harnish of Strasburg, Dustin (Melinda) Harnish of Strasburg, Kent (Missy) Sensenig of Terre Hill, Jack Kramer of Strasburg, Andrea Kramer Ihnat, Strasburg, Brandon Oswald of Georgetown, Justine (Matthew) Frymyer of Lancaster, Jeffrey Stevenson of Lancaster; great grandchildren, Toby, Arik, Tonna Harnish, Adam, Georgia Harnish, Isabelle, Hudson, Dane Ihnat, Deagan and Alexis Frymyer; 1 brother David A. Fisher of Paradise; and a sister Doris Burk and her companion Fred Hackman. Jean K. “Mitzi” Newlin, 80, of Hopkins Mill Road, Quarryville, PA went to be with her Lord and Savior Sunday, November 11, 2018. She was the wife of Robert C. Newlin. Born in Coatesville, PA she was the daughter of the late Joseph D. and Teresa Perella Diobilda. Mitzi had a very strong faith and was a former member of Faith Reformed Presbyterian Church, where she participated with the 4X4 group, Bibles studies and game nights, and a current member of Harvest Presbyterian Church, Lancaster. She assisted her husband in their business, Newlin’s Auto Service in Coatesville for 32 years. She had also worked at Lukens Steel Factory. Mitzi was devoted to her family and was a loving inspiration to them all. Amanda (Mandy) Davis McClune, 44, of Willow Street, passed away peacefully in her home on Friday, November 9, 2018. She fought a long battle with diabetes for most of her life. She was the loving wife of Jason McClune, stepmother to Kara and Allison McClune, sister to Kim Davis, and daughter of Larry and Sharon Davis of Kutztown, Pa. She grew up in Fleetwood, PA, where she excelled as an athlete in softball, basketball, and field hockey. In 1992, she earned the Female Athlete of the Year award at Fleetwood High School. After graduating, she attended Alvernia College where she majored in Physical Therapy Assistant and played softball and field hockey. In 1996, she earned the Female Athlete of the Year award at the college and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2014. Mandy loved the game of softball, coaching for 13 years at Penn State Berks Campus and also giving pitching lessons to many girls over the years. Richard Lee Wiggins, 87, New Providence, PA, loving husband, father, and grandfather was welcomed into the arms of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on November 11, 2018. He was born in West Chester, PA, on July 13, 1931, a son of the late Cecil Edward and Bertha Lee Franklin Wiggins. He served as a sergeant in the US Army, Korean Conflict from 1952 to 1955. After his time in the military he worked as a truck driver at the former Lukens Steel Company in Coatesville, PA. He also served as an ordained minister at New Providence Baptist Church, New Providence, PA. James D. Holdaway, 47, of Quarryville and formerly of Peach Bottom, PA, was taken by cancer on October 22, 2018.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Amy (Adams), his daughter Peyton Adams-Holdaway both at home. Also surviving is his son James Jr., mother, Margy Latham of Nottingham, siblings, Kathy Morris, Connie Perger and John Holdaway. Jim is predeceased by his father David Holdaway and by stepfather William Latham. Dorothy Funkhouser Philips, 94, passed away on Thursday, November 8, 2018 at Preston Residence in Jenners Pond Retirement Community, West Grove. She was the wife of the late Paul L. Philips. They met when they were both students at Penn State University and celebrated 50 years of marriage. Born in Keene, NH she was the twin daughter of the late Leon and Belle Ailman Funkhouser. Dotty was a member of Oxford Presbyterian Church. She was a Deacon, Sunday school teacher and a member of various women’s groups. She owned and operated, with her family, Philips Florist, Oxford, before retiring to Jenners Pond. She enjoyed traveling, camping, bridge, gardening and in recent years her friends at Jenners Pond, playing pool, Wii and puzzles with her friend, Helen. She also enjoyed keeping travel diaries and writing letters and notes to friends and family. Patricia D. Hushon , 88, left this earth to join her heavenly family on November 10, 2018. She was at home, surrounded by her loving family, with Hospice’s care and support. Pat had celebrated 64 years of marriage with her husband, Joseph H. Hushon. Together they owned and operated Woodside Vu Farm in Delta, where they raised their family. Surviving besides her husband, Joseph, are four sons; Dan (Kay), Bill (Sharon), Rick (Marilyn), and Ben (Cindy), along with ten grandchildren, three great grandsons and two sisters, Theresa Black and Mary Margaret Wagman. Herbert Ray Sheets, Sr. (Bucky) passed away peacefully at Gardens of Memory Care in Easton, PA on Wednesday, November 7, 2018. He was 80.
Born June 22, 1938, he was the oldest son of the late Virgil and Virginia Jones Sheets. He was the husband of the late Ella Jane Sheets and was preceded in death by his only son, Herbert Ray Sheets, Jr. Herb was a life-long resident of Peach Bottom who will be remembered as the owner/operator of Sheets’ Garage for over 40 years. He will also be remembered for his dog, OJ who came to work with him every day. John H. Geyer Jr., 52, of New Providence PA, passed away on Saturday, October 27, 2018. John was known for his rowdy torrid sense of humor. Born in Lancaster, PA, a son of John H. and Carol Heisler Geyer of New Providence. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his maternal grandmother, Pearl Heisler, New Providence, sister, Jodi Book, New Providence, niece Mikayla, 5 daughters, Stephanie Geyer, Krystal Seats, Ashley Fisher, Allisia Warren, Destiny Warren, 3 grandchildren, Alex, Hailey, Lillian. Kathryn P. Hostetter, 98, formerly of Quarryville, died peacefully at Willow Valley Communities Healthcare on November 5, 2018 after a brief illness. Born on March 15, 1920 in Quarryville, she was the daughter of the late Charles H. and Jennie Mae (Shaubach) Rhoads. Her parents believed that they were expecting a boy. During her lifetime Kathryn’s family and friends lovingly referred to her as John or Johnny which was the name she was to be given at birth. Kathryn was the matriarch of a large extended family whom she loved dearly. Her mother began holding a family reunion every 3rd Sunday in August when Kathryn was a child. Chicken Corn Soup was the main dish served at these reunions. To this day about 150 family members still gather for the Chicken Corn Soup reunion every August. She is a graduate of Quarryville High School. After graduation she worked at the former Rhoads Spanish Tavern in Quarryville. Later she managed the restaurant until her retirement. |
