Alta E. Shuler, 98, formerly of Quarryville, died Wednesday, October 3, 2018 at Conestoga View. She was the wife of the late Jack R. Shuler who died in 1953. Born in Colerain Township, she was the daughter of the late John W. and Gertrude Armer Myers. Alta was a member of Intercourse United Methodist Church. She enjoyed playing bingo and going to household auctions. Alta retired from Patti Tone in Gap where she was employed in the garment shipping department. Surviving her is a daughter, Jane Lefever of Lancaster; 5 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and 4 step great grandchildren. Addie Jackson, 80, formerly of Peach Bottom, PA, passed away on Tuesday, October 2, 2018.
Addie was born in Manchester KY, a daughter of the late Matt and Lottie Collet Jackson. Dorothy Louise “Dot” MacLean, 92, of Quarryville, Pennsylvania, formerly of Wilmington, Delaware, went home to be with the Lord on Friday morning, September 28, 2018, at Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community. She was the loving wife of the late Donald Gordon MacLean, sharing almost 60 years of marriage at the time of his passing in 2016. Born in Wilmington, DE, Dot was the daughter of the late Edwin G. and Ethel (Moore) Smyth. After graduating from Wilmington High School in 1943, she attended the University of Delaware, graduating in 1946 with a bachelor’s degree in chemistry, with honors. Dot then worked for Hercules as a chemist before marrying Don “Curly” in 1956, after which time she devoted her life to caring for her family and home. Dot and Don enjoyed playing golf together. They enjoyed vacationing on Lake of Bays, Ontario, Canada, with extended family for many years, and then at a condo on a golf course in Williamsburg, Virginia, where they entertained visits from their children and grandchildren. Dot was known for her gracious hospitality, regularly inviting friends to her home for Sunday meals, and for being a friend to those in need. She dearly loved her family and also her church family as was evidenced by her faithfulness as a daily prayer warrior on their behalf. Dot and Don were active members of Faith Presbyterian Church, Wilmington, DE, for many years. More recently, they were active members of Proclamation Presbyterian Church in Bryn Mawr, PA, before moving to Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community in the fall of 2007 where they attended Faith Reformed Presbyterian Church. Patsy (Zander) Hassler, 83, of Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community, entered into rest on Monday, October 1, 2018. Born in Quarryville, she was a daughter of the late Norman W. and Dorothy (Rineer) Groff. Her Husband, George W. Hassler, III, died January 18, 2018. Patsy worked and retired from Ferguson & Hassler Supermarket, where held a variety of positions. She was a member of Middle Octorara Presbyterian Church and Soroptimist International. Patsy enjoyed going to their vacation home in Florida, traveling to New York, and spending time with her family and friends. Surviving are sons, William D., husband of Susan, of Leola, Richard, husband of Lucy of Carlisle, and a daughter, Diane M., wife of Gary Moore, of Clear Spring, MD. Also surviving are 4 grandchildren and sisters, Nancy Mowrer, June Freiberg and Barbara Scheidt. Betty R. Temple, 90, of Quarryville, entered into rest on Friday, September 28, 2018. Born in Chester, PA, she was the daughter of the late G. Leslie and Ruth (McDowell) Widdowson. Betty and her husband, Charles E. Temple, Jr. would have celebrated 70 years of marriage next month. Betty graduated from the former Swarthmore High School in 1947. An entrepreneur, she acquired Clean Enterprises dry cleaning and laundry business in 1969. Betty went on to expand the business to self-serve laundry and car washes in several locations and in the mid 80’s, it was the largest operation of its kind in Lancaster County. Betty was a member of Little Britain Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed collecting baskets and bears. Betty loved her grandchildren and cherished the times they spent together at the beach. Surviving besides her husband Charles, is a daughter, Linda M. Kirk, a son, Charles Temple, III, husband of Judy Bushong, and a daughter, Velma R., wife of Charlie Hart, along with 8 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren. Daniel E. Hollinger, 68, of Broadmoor Drive, Willow Street, PA died Thursday, September 27, 2018 following a ten month illness. He and his wife Susan D. Armer Hollinger celebrated 46 years of marriage. Born in Lancaster, PA he was the son of the late Melvin L. and S. Lois Witmer Hollinger. Daniel had been employed by Burnham Boiler /US Boiler Company for 47 years as a production worker. For the past 17 years he was president of the GMP Local #287. A US Navy veteran of the Vietnam War, serving from 1968-1972, he served on the USS Shangri La Aircraft Carrier. An avid hunter, he was a member of the Lone Pine Lodge in Tioga County. He also enjoyed golfing and was a huge fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers. |
