Clair J. “CJ” Charles, 94, of New Providence, passed away on Monday, October 15, 2018 at Conestoga View Nursing & Rehabilitation. He was the loving husband of the late Marianne (Geist) Charles, with whom he shared 65 years of marriage at the time of her passing in 2013. Born in New Providence, he was the son of the late David L. and Edna (Johnson) Charles. CJ was a man who lived a full life, loving and serving God, his family and his community. An important part of his life was Zion United Church of Christ where he attended and served most of his life. CJ attended a one-room schoolhouse in New Providence. Early in his life he worked at his father’s sawmill. He served his country during WWII with the 87th Naval Construction Battalion in the South Pacific. In conjunction with New Zealand troops he was part of Operation Goodtime in the Treasury Islands where he helped install the first long-range radar, and received a commendation from the New Zealand Command. He went on to establish CJ Charles Lumber, Inc. in 1955, working there until his retirement in 2004. Wanda E. Winters, 72, of Lititz, entered into rest on Saturday, October 13, 2018 at Moravian Manor. Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Marvin C. and Helen (Graybill) Evans. She was the loving wife of the late Kenneth G. Winters for over 50 years. Wanda was a 1965 graduate of Solanco High School. She was a long-time member of Zion U.C.C. and had also worked as a greeter and receptionist at Women and Babies Hospital for many years. Wanda also enjoyed spending time at “Evans Acres” the family cabin. Wanda is survived by her children: Chad (Lisa) Winters of York; Michael (Lisa) Winters of Lititz; Jodi (Brad) Steely of Montoursville; and Scott (Penny) Winters of Montoursville. Also surviving are brothers, John, Donald, and Richard Evans, 11 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Kay Davis. John Henry Globisch, 90, of New Providence, entered into rest on Saturday, October 13, 2018 at Lancaster General Hospital. Born in Brownstown, he was the son of the late Erich and Sadie E. (Quinn) Globisch. He was the loving husband of the late Claire Ann (Schlitzer) Globisch. John had served our country for a year in the Merchant Marines before entering the Air Corp. He was a amateur boxer with a record of 61-4-1, he turned professional after leaving the military. He later worked as a chef for Millers Smorgasbord and the Ephrata American Legion. John was a member of Ascension Lutheran Church and the American Legion. John is survived by 2 sons: Eric, husband of Donna Globisch of New Providence; and Robert, husband of Dawn Stahler of Quarryville; 4 grandchildren: Christopher Globisch, Corey Smith, Matt Smith, and Hope Globisch; 5 great grandsons and a great granddaughter. He was preceded in death by 4 sisters, 1 brother and a son, John Randy Globisch. Eric Stephen Canale, 23, of Quarryville, entered into rest on Wednesday, October 10, 2018. Born in Delaware County, he was the son of Eric W., and Heather (Tagtmeir) Canale. Eric was a 2013 graduate of Solanco High School and earned a culinary degree from Mt. Joy CTC. Eric loved traveling and was always on the go. He had a giving spirit and cherished his family and was known for putting the needs of other before himself. In addition to his parents, Eric is survived by a brother, Joshua W. Canale and a sister, Emma W. Canale. Patrick V. “Pat” Slater, 77, of Quarryville, formerly of Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas, passed away on Thursday, October 4, 2018, at Lancaster General Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Rosemarie M. (Zielinski) Slater, with whom he shared 51 years of marriage. Born in Charleston, WV, he was the son of the late Vernon L. and Hazel M. (Dilly) Slater. Pat was a 1959 graduate of Portland High School in Michigan. After high school, he proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1959 to 1972, 8 years of which he served in the United States Marine Corps Drum and Bugle Corps, “The Commandant’s Own,” Washington D.C. He went on to work as a project manager for 25 years, the last 19 for ADM International Inc., retiring in 2011. Active in the Masons, Pat was a member of Metropolitan Lodge #1182 AF & AM in Dallas, TX, a member of Hella Shrine Temple in Garland, TX, and he was a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason. Pat had a passion for drum and bugle corps, and he instructed the Hella Shrine Temple Drum and Bugle Corps and the Moslah Shrine Temple Drum and Bugle Corps. He also had a passion for show trucks, owning a prized 1970 Chevy C10 that was chopped 7” with lots of chrome he added under the hood. He also made sure his wife, Rose, had a show truck too, and he built her a 1983 Chevy S10 pro-street truck. George “Pop” Noe, 90, of Quarryville, formerly of Lancaster, passed away on Saturday, October 6, 2018, at Lancashire Hall. He was the loving husband of the late Mildred Noe, sharing 55 years of marriage at the time of her passing in 2009. Born in Welch, WV, he was the son of the late David and Clara (Hawpton) Noe. George proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Over the years, George was employed by the Hubley Manufacturing Company, Ezra Martin Meat Company, and Rubin Steel. In recent years, George kept active by maintaining the operations at the Engleside Car Wash. He also enjoyed having breakfast with his friends at the Willow Street Restaurant. John F. Hess, 61 of New Providence, PA, died unexpectedly at his home October 6, 2018. John was the husband of Cindy Lack Hess. Born in Lancaster, PA, he was the son of the late Joseph Leroy and Dorothy Eager Hess. An avid pigeon racer, John enjoyed raising and racing his pigeons. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, crabbing, and his “hot rod”. Florence M. Roland, 90, of Quarryville, entered into rest on Tuesday, October 9, 2018, at the Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community. Born in Quarryville, she was a daughter of the late Harry and Grace (Moore) Herr. Her husband, Raymond M. Roland died in 2002. Florence was a 1947 graduate of the former Quarryville High School. She went on to work as a seamstress at the former Tidykins garment company. After the closing of Tidykins she went on to retired from the former Skyline Corporation where she worked in production. In her younger years she enjoyed bowling and ceramics. Sarah Louise (Minnich) Wienand, 88, of Quarryville, entered into rest on Wednesday, October 3, 2018 at her home. Born in Lancaster County, she was the daughter of the late Walter Sr., and Ella Nora (Evans) Minnich. She was the loving wife of Martin F. Wienand, Jr. for over 25 years. Sarah was a 1948 graduate of Solanco High School. She went on to work for Farmers National Bank and later, BBT Bank for 38 years. Sarah was an active, long-time member of St. Paul’s Church, where she taught Sunday School and sang in the choir. She was also a girl scout leader in Quarryville for many years. She had volunteered at Community Hospital in Lancaster and also delivered with Meals on Wheels. Sarah loved flower gardening and was known for her beautiful floral arrangements. She also enjoyed playing cards and dancing and formed many close friendships through these activities. Sarah and Martin traveled extensively both on cruises and bus trips throughout the United States. She also had fond memories of her annual trips to Cape May with family and friends. She was an avid Phillies fan. Ted Leake, 83, of White Oak Road Paradise, PA died Wednesday, October 3, 2018 at Masonic Village, Elizabethtown, PA. He was the husband of the late Claire Spielmeyer Leake who died October 28, 2013. Born in Logan, WV, he was the son of the late William M. and Gertrude Peek Leake. Ted retired from General Motors after 34 years of service as a maintenance supervisor. An avid aviator, he enjoyed flying his own planes and traveling in his R.V. with his wife prior to her passing. A real handyman, Ted constructed his own house in Paradise. Surviving him are three children, Shirley C. (Douglas) Kelly of Burbank, WA, Bruce R. Goulet of Tullytown, PA, Brent R. (Tammy) Goulet of Manheim; 7 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; and a half brother, Frank Leake of HI. |
