Kenneth H. “Kenny” Weaver, 74, of Peach Bottom, entered into rest peacefully on Friday, December 18, 2020. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Herbert and Sara (Douglas) Weaver. Kenny proudly served our country in the U.S. Army. He had been employed as a truck driver for James Groff and Son in Quarryville for many years. He went on to retire from Long’s Asphalt. Kenny owned several street rods that he enjoyed working on. His garage was known as a gathering place for his friends, especially Orbia Adams and Joe Grace. He also enjoyed spending time with his buddy, Timmy Yohey. Kenny is survived by his daughter, Jacqueline Sue Thomas and his granddaughter, Jenna Roland, whom Kenny referred to as his “grand girl” and best friend. They enjoyed spending time together and regularly going out for Chinese food. He was excited for the birth of his first great- grandchild in May. Also surviving is a daughter, Kelly Howell and her son, Casey; and siblings, Richard Weaver, Ronnie Weaver, husband of Bertie of Peach Bottom and Maggie McCauley of Drumore and several nieces and nephews. Verna Rutledge, age 90, of Peach Bottom, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 20, 2020, surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Carl C. Rutledge who died February 23, 1999, they were married for 53 years at the time of his passing. Born in Manchester, KY, she was the daughter of the late Matt and Lottie Collett Jackson. Verna was a member of Porter’s Grove Missionary Baptist Church where she sang in the choir. Her joys included music, cooking and gardening. Many hours were spent tending her large garden and canning the vegetables. She enjoyed preparing delicious meals for her family and no one ever left her house hungry. James L. Hobba, 64, of New Providence, PA passed away at his residence on Sunday, December 20, 2020.
He and his wife Linda K. Stiles Hobba celebrated 34 years of marriage. He was born in Johnstown, PA, a son of Betty Crubanich wife of Jack Wissinger of Jerome and the late Irvin Hobba. Jim had been employed as a heavy equipment operator for Abel Construction, and later was an Amish Taxi Driver. A proud veteran, he served his country in the US Navy during the Vietnam War. Jim’s greatest interest in life was that of his family. Anna E. Hughes (Betty), age 83, formally of Quarryville, passed away on Friday, December 18, 2020 at Ware Presbyterian Village. She was the wife of the late Carl P. Hughes. She was born in Cape May, NJ, daughter to the late Paul and Mae Halburner McGuigan. Betty was a member of the Conowingo Baptist Church. She enjoyed reading, watching the Phillies ballgames, the Christmas Holiday, square dancing at the old Fulton Grange and in Russelville, but most of all, she loved the Lord Jesus and her family. R. Guy “Jack” Sexton, 81, of Peach Bottom, passed away on Thursday, December 17, 2020, due to injuries he sustained from a motor vehicle accident. He was the loving husband of the late Betty A. (Boyd) Sexton, with whom he shared 49 years of marriage at the time of her passing in 2008. Born in Bristol, TN, he was the son of the late Edward and America (Powers) Sexton. From the time he could work until his retirement, Jack was employed in timber management, and most recently worked for Stoltzfus Forest Products. He also proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1956 – 1957. Jack was a member of Robert Fulton Fire Company for over 30 years, serving in the capacity of Fire Policeman. He was also a member of the V.F.W. and American Legion, and he did volunteer work through these organizations to help other veterans. For leisure, Jack enjoyed playing bingo and poker machines. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, and he will be missed by all who knew him. Leslie J. Best, age 76 of Quarryville, passed away at her home on Thursday, December 17, 2020. She was married to Robert C. Best with whom she celebrated 54 years of marriage on March 5th. Born in Millersville, she was the daughter of the late W. Lester and Mary Virginia Ernst Campbell. She was a member of Bethesda United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Women’s Society and served in church fundraisers. Leslie graduated from Penn Manor, class of 1963. She worked at Ferguson and Hassler for 15 years. In her free time, Leslie loved snowmobiling, going to the mountains, watching gameshows, playing games on her tablet, and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. James C. Schlosser, age 81 of Lincoln University, passed away at the Jennersville Hospital on Thursday, December 17, 2020. He was the husband of the late Evelyn Lucille Ager Schlosser, who passed away on August 12, 2019. He was born in Lilly, PA, son of the late Henry "Camp" & Ursula "Sue" Ickes Schlosser. He was a member of the Jennersville Church of the Brethren. He graduated from Gallitzin High School and Penn State with a Bachelor Degree in Education. He taught 7th and 8th grade Science at Collindale High School for 38 years, where he also coached football, basketball and baseball. He was inducted into the Delaware County Hall of Fame. Ruth Ann Wood, 86 formerly of Little Britain, recently a resident of Willow Valley, passed on December 16, 2020 after a brief illness. She was a victim of COVID 19. Ruth Ann was the daughter of the late Owen H. and Edna A. Groff. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jesse Wood and a foster son Dat T. Tran. Ruth Ann was a very loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She enjoyed being with her children and their families and her brothers and sisters. She is survived by her children: Cindy Lou wife of Douglas Tanner of New Providence; Jesse James husband of Patricia (Townley) Wood of Little Britain; Edna Sue wife of Robert Rose of Lititz; Linda Jo wife of Ronald Bolt; Jeffery Owen husband of Tammy (Dickel) Wood; Thanh husband of Lisa (Charles) Tran, all of Little Britain, Nottingham, PA. Ruth Ann was blessed with 16 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. She was also survived by 8 siblings, Ione wife of the late John Gardner of Willow Street; Owen H. Jr. husband of Rose Mary (Gingrich) Groff of Quarryville; David husband of Pam (Tarr) Groff of Albuquerque, NM; Phillip C. Groff of North East Md.; Norma Jean Sapp of Willow Street; Abigail wife of Mark King of Lancaster; Patricia wife of Dr. Gary Wright of Millersville; Pamela wife of Brian Jones of Ronks, along with numerous nieces and nephews. M. Kathryn Hohenwarter , formerly of Mountville passed away on December 16, 2020 at Ephrata Manor. She was the wife of the late George F. Hohenwarter Sr. who passed away in 1980. She was born in Bart Township to the late Frank and Katie Wimer Thompson. She was preceded in death by her son Richard L. Hohenwarter; her great grandson Tyler J. Eckman; her sisters Laura M. Mowery and A. Lidia Bleecher. She is survived by her son George F. (Mary Lou) Hohenwarter, Jr; 4 grandchildren, Michael Hohenwarter, Tracy (John) Gainer, Kim (John) Eckman, Mindy Nolt; a niece Meda (Vincent) Miller; and nephews James (Arlene) Bleecher, Carl (Marie) Bleecher; 6 great grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren. Dale L. Miller, 86, of Willow Street, went to be with his Lord on Monday, December 14, 2020 at Fairmount Homes Retirement Community, Ephrata, PA. He was the husband of Janet I. Witmer Miller. Born in New Danville, he was the son of the late Jay and Fannie Elizabeth Newswanger Miller. Dale was a member of New Providence Church of God. He retired after 25years plus from the US Postal Service where he was employed as a letter carrier. A US Army veteran, he served as a Private First Class following the Korean War. |
