William Howard Hogg died on June 29, 2016. He had a heart condition since 1981 that would have made us expect him to already be with the Lord. Bill was born September 4, 1920 in his childhood home in Kirkwood, PA to Alvin Earl and Kathrine B Simmons. He grew up in Kirkwood and graduated from Colerain high school in 1938. After high school Bill worked at Grinnell Company in Philadelphia and lived with his brother Earl. He was drafted into the army on July 25, 1942 and served until 1945. He was a Corporal working in Motor Pool where he led a convoy and later spent time in England in advanced training. When he returned home from his military duty he lived with his brother Earl. He went to Mechanics School with the G I Bill and started working for his brother Winnie in 1948 as a truck driver and mechanic. He would eat lunch at Kint’s diner where he met his wife, Mary Lou Kint. They were married on Aug 22, 1949. He gave up trucking and worked for Winnie as a mechanic and parts man his entire life. Bill and Mary rented a mushroom house called “The Old Mill” and raised mushrooms with Maurice and Elsie Ferree, Bill’s cousin. They built their own mushroom house in 1959 and continued until 1972. Bill attended Chestnut Level Presbyterian Church where he was active as a deacon. He believed in a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and was saved at an Evangelistic Service with Bob Wells in 1950. In his spare time, he took his family to Oliver B. Green Tent Revival, Billy Graham Crusade, Open Air Service, Rawlinsville Camp Meeting, and trips to Sandy Cove. Bill was dedicated to passing his strong beliefs onto his children as a Godly legacy. He taught his family a strong work ethic and to depend on God to see them through difficult times. Although Bill will be missed, he is in Heaven worshipping Jesus. He would desire to see all his family living and serving God.
Bill is survived by his loving wife, Mary of 66 years, his children Daniel of Drumore and Linda (Dwayne) Boelter of Cedar Rapids, IA, 7 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, 5 brothers, 1 sister, a son David in 2002 and his son-in-law Dwayne in 2014.
