Mrs. Shirley J. (Brammer) Monk went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday March 30, 2024, at her home in Quarryville, PA. She was 87 years old. Shirley was raised in Maryland but spent most of her life living in the Little Britain/Quarryville areas of PA. She also lived in France, NY, and VA. She was the wife of the late William A. Monk. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Blanche M. (Pyle) Brammer, her two children, Debra B. and William A. Monk, Jr., as well as her two brothers, Clyde Jr. and Kenneth E. Brammer. She is survived by her two granddaughters, Brittany (Monk) Edwards and husband Reid, and Alexandra (Monk) Haarich and husband Klaus, two great grandchildren and another one soon to be born; a sister, Joanne Henderson of Conowingo, MD, a sister-in-law Susanne Brammer of Rising Sun, MD., special caregivers Richard Monk and his wife Sherri, as well as many nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She and her late husband were members of Safe Harbor Baptist Church. Shirley worked at Aberdeen Proving Ground, in the cafeteria for Rising Sun High School and the Solanco School District, and also at the former Ledger Newspaper in Quarryville for 16 years. She was an excellent seamstress, enjoyed reading and doing crossword puzzles, loved her church, peanut M&M’s and Nutter Butter cookies. Services will be at the Reynolds and Shivery Funeral Home, 144 East State Street, Quarryville, PA on Wednesday, April 3, 2024 as follows: 10 -11am viewing; 11am funeral service officiated by her Pastor Gary Gilbert. Interment will follow at the Little Britain Presbyterian Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Safe Harbor Baptist Church, 478 Daleville Road, Cochranville, PA. 19330.
