Robert L. Rinier, age 92, formerly of Lancaster, passed away at the Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community on Wednesday, October 18, 2023. He was the husband of the late Irene M. Burkey Rinier, who passed away on March 20, 2015. He was born in Ronks, son of the late Charles & Eva Scarborough Rinier. He was a member of the Oregon Community United Methodist Church of Lititz. He served in the Navy during the Korean Conflict on the USS Hornet as a Third Class Radarman. He worked for the Lancaster City Water Department for 22 years retiring in 1999. He enjoyed country music, bowling, playing softball, sports especially the Boston Red Sox. He was a past president of the Lancaster Bowling Association, bowling for over 65 years. In his early years he delivered newspapers and in his time at the Quarryville home he relived that by delivering newspapers to the residents.
He is survived by 3 children Ronald E. husband of Alfreda Pittman Mattia Rinier of Refton, Donald E. husband of Robin Clawges Rinier of New Providence, Beverly A. Kaylor of Mt. Joy, 6 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son Robert D. Rinier, 3 grandchildren and 3 siblings: John Rinier, Harry Rinier and Mildred Cunningham. Funeral service will take place from Shivery Funeral Home, 3214 Lincoln Highway East, Paradise, PA, on Monday, October 23rd at 11 a.m., with a viewing time from 10 a.m. until time of service. Interment will take place in the St. John's United Methodist Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Hospice & Community Care, P.O. Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604.
