Ralph Mason Layman, longtime Quarryville resident, departed this life on December 9, 2016, of natural causes at age 91. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Miriam Drumm Layman, sons Peter (Bangor, PA), John (Birdsboro, Pa), and James (Medford, MA), and four grandchildren who cherish his memory. Mr. Layman was born in Sayre, Pa. He served in both theaters of World War II in the United States Navy. Mr. Layman obtained B.S. and M.S degrees from the Pennsylvania State University and taught Agricultural Education in Brookville, Pa, and then the Solanco High School. He completed his educational career as Director of Lancaster County Career and Technology Centers (formerly Vo-Tech). During a long and happy retirement, Mr. and Mrs. Layman enjoyed many travel and volunteering opportunities, including tutoring, Sunday School teaching and helping establish the Solanco Area Meals-on Wheels program. Mr. Layman also loved gardening and Penn State football.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, December 23, 2016 at 11 am at Memorial United Methodist Church, 101 S. Hess St., Quarryville, PA, followed by a luncheon reception. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions may be made to Memorial United Methodist Church at the above address.
