Patrick V. “Pat” Slater, 77, of Quarryville, formerly of Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas, passed away on Thursday, October 4, 2018, at Lancaster General Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Rosemarie M. (Zielinski) Slater, with whom he shared 51 years of marriage. Born in Charleston, WV, he was the son of the late Vernon L. and Hazel M. (Dilly) Slater. Pat was a 1959 graduate of Portland High School in Michigan. After high school, he proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1959 to 1972, 8 years of which he served in the United States Marine Corps Drum and Bugle Corps, “The Commandant’s Own,” Washington D.C. He went on to work as a project manager for 25 years, the last 19 for ADM International Inc., retiring in 2011. Active in the Masons, Pat was a member of Metropolitan Lodge #1182 AF & AM in Dallas, TX, a member of Hella Shrine Temple in Garland, TX, and he was a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason. Pat had a passion for drum and bugle corps, and he instructed the Hella Shrine Temple Drum and Bugle Corps and the Moslah Shrine Temple Drum and Bugle Corps. He also had a passion for show trucks, owning a prized 1970 Chevy C10 that was chopped 7” with lots of chrome he added under the hood. He also made sure his wife, Rose, had a show truck too, and he built her a 1983 Chevy S10 pro-street truck. In addition to his wife, Pat is survived by a son, Kevin Slater, of Enola, PA; daughters, Tamala Collins, wife of Nicholas L. Collins, of Hesperia, California, and Vikki Boyer, wife of Richard J. Krebsbach, of Sequim, Washington. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held from 6 p.m. – 10 p.m. on Thursday, October 18, 2018, at the American Legion Post 34, 1388 Arcadia Road, Lancaster, PA 17601, with a Masonic Service at 7 p.m. A Committal Service with full military honors will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 19, 2018, at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, RR #2, Box 484, Indiantown Gap Road, Annville, PA 17003 (please arrive no later than 1:30 p.m.).
