Opal M. MacDurmon, 88, formerly of Lancaster and Bear, DE, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, March 15, 2024. She was the loving wife of the late William A. MacDurmon, with whom she shared 58 years of marriage at the time of his passing in 2011. Born in Pasadena, CA, she was the daughter of the late Raymond L. and Marion (Dittemore) Sweitzer. Opal was a graduate of Voorheesville High School, class of 1953. For over 30 years she was employed as a secretary, first for Southeast Delco School District, then ICI Americas, where she retired from. In her spare time, Opal enjoyed reading and traveling. During her lifetime she was a member of an Assembly of God Church, most recently Lancaster First Assembly of God. Opal had a passion and a ministry for working with children, being involved in children’s church, Sunday School, Christian Club, and Bible to School for over 50 years. She enjoyed doing things for others, and she was known for being one of the kindest people you would ever meet. She is survived by a son, George MacDurmon, husband of Roe, of Edmond, OK; daughters, Kathryn MacMullen, of Strasburg, and Joanne Holden, wife of Ryan, of Willow Spring, NC; grandchildren, Jonathan (Stephanie) MacDurmon, Lindsay (Daniel) Dickey, Allyson (Shaun) Williams, Reagan Greer, and Meredith Greer. She is also survived by 5 great-grandchildren, and a brother, Roger Sweitzer, husband of Dorinda, of California. In addition to her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant son, Daniel MacDurmon, sons-in-law, Allyn Greer and Charles MacMullen, 1 brother and 1 sister.
A Celebration of Opal’s life will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at Lancaster First Assembly of God, 1025 Columbia Avenue, Lancaster, PA 17603, with a time to visit with the family from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Interment will be private.
