Mary Kay Peters, 81, of Quarryville, formerly of Wilmington, DE, was welcomed home by her heavenly Father on Friday, February 9, 2024. She was the beloved wife of Bruce G. Peters, with whom she shared 58 years of marriage. Born in Grove City, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Howard Reed Smith and Mary Katherine (Dickey) Smith. Mary Kay was a graduate of Ridgeway High School in Ridgeway, PA, class of 1960. Following high school, she attended Indiana State College for one year, then transferred to the University of Delaware, earning a bachelor’s degree in home economics education in 1964. She was employed as a home economics teacher prior to having children; she then dedicated her life to caring for her family and home. Mary Kay was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She served and faithfully supported her family and others through countless acts of service. When not serving her family and friends, she could be found enjoying the sand and sun of Sea Isle City, New Jersey, playing card games, sewing and crafting, rollerblading, scrapbooking, and square dancing with her beloved husband, Bruce. Most importantly, Mary Kay loved and served her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Her quiet faith was demonstrated in a myriad of ways, including serving and utilizing her talents at Faith Presbyterian Church (Wilmington, Delaware), Berea Church (Hockessin, Delaware), and The Christian Academy (Brookhaven, PA).
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Jennifer Wenger, and son-in-law Ashley Wenger, of Highlands Ranch, CO, and daughter-in-law, Lysa (Watson) Peters, of Underwood, IN. She is also survived by eight grandchildren: Alexi Wenger, Alyssa Wenger, Lindsay Wenger, Katelyn (Peters) Jonas, Craig Peters, Jonathan Peters, Abigail Peters, and Josiah Peters. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Mark Peters, in April of 2023. A Celebration of Mary Kay’s life will be held at Faith Church in Quarryville, Pennsylvania. Service date and time will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Mary Kay’s memory to Arma Dei Academy (341 E. Wildcat Reserve Parkway, Highlands Ranch, CO 80130). Arrangements entrusted to Dewald Funeral & Cremation Services, Inc., Quarryville. To leave an online condolence, please visit www.dewalds.com.
