John Charles Lilley Jr, 82 of Oxford passed away Wednesday, December 13, 2023, in his home. He now joins his wife, Kathy Jane Woodring Lilley, in heaven, with whom he shared 47 years of marriage. Born in Carlisle, PA, He was the son of the late John Charles Sr. and Violet Dewalt Lilley. He was also preceded in death by his sister Lois Ann Lilley Diehl (Bill). John graduated from Boiling Springs High School, where he was the first student band director, and West Chester State with a degree in Music Education. He taught instrumental music at the Oxford Intermediate School and Elk Ridge for 34 years. He was also the time clock operator for Oxford Sports, including 7th,8th, JV and Varsity Football, boys and girls soccer, boys and girls basketball, wrestling, and track and field, for 44 years. He was inducted into the Oxford High School Sports Wall of Fame in 2018 for his service. John also served as a PIAA girls volleyball official and softball umpire, ASA men’s fast pitch, modified and slow pitch umpire, and baseball umpire for the Coatesville adult and teener league. He was a member of the Chester County Umpire Association and Founding member of the OAKS umpire Association where he served as 25 rule interpreter, assigner and president. He was also a former Oxford AA president.
John was a member of the PSEA, PSEA-R, and NEA. He was a charter member and former treasurer of Southern Chester County Band Directors Association and long-time member of the Oxford Presbyterian Church. He is survived by one son, Clark Lilley of Paradise, PA; one daughter Taryn Hand (Ben) of Hiram GA; and four grandsons, Ethan, Aiden, Gavin, and Dawson. Funeral Services will be held at 11 am on Friday December 29that the Oxford Presbyterian Church, 6 Pine St, Oxford, PA 19363, where friends may visit from 10-10:45 am. Friends may also visit Thursday December 28th from 6-8 pm at the Edward L Collins, Jr. Funeral Home, Inc., 86 Pine St, Oxford. Interment will be in Oxford Cemetery.
