Joanne R. Herr, 84, of New Providence, entered into rest unexpectedly on Friday, December 14, 2018, at her home. Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late John and Mary (Rutt) Stoner. She was married to the late John R. Herr, who died in 2017. Joanne was the hardworking mother of six children. A large part of her life was spent helping her husband on the family farm in Providence Township. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed bird watching. She was especially fond of cardinals. Joanne was an active member of Mechanic Grove Mennonite Church, where she regularly participated in the sewing circle. She is survived by 6 children: David L., (Diane) of New Providence; John R., (Carol) of Quarryville; Gordon E., (Joyce) of Linden, WI; Steven M., (Nancy) of New Providence; Julie A., (Scott Hess) of Lancaster; and Timothy W., of New Providence; 12 grandchildren;14 great-grandchildren; a brother, John Stoner and a sister, Violet Mowrer. She was also preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Norine M. Herr and a grandson, Nicholas Herr.
Funeral services will take place at Mechanic Grove Mennonite Church, 735 Church Rd., Quarryville, PA on Saturday, December 22, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in the adjoining church cemetery. Viewings will be held at Dewald Funeral and Cremation Services, 227 W. 4th St., Quarryville on Friday evening from 7-8:30 p.m. and also on Saturday at the church from 10-11 a.m. Kindly omit flowers.
