Janet M. Hassler, 93, of Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community and formerly Quincy, MA, entered into rest on May 8, 2018. Born in Lancaster County, she was the daughter of the late George W. and Elsie K. (Fritz) Hassler. After graduating from high school, Janet went on to Boston University and received her degree in Education in 1949. She taught 4th grade in the Quincy public school system until her retirement in 1990. She also taught 1 year in Germany, in the U.S. Army Air Corps and volunteered for the Women’s Auxiliary at the former Quincy City Hospital. Janet was a 50 year member of Bethany Congregational Church in Quincy before moving to Lancaster County in 2010 and joining St. Paul’s Church in Quarryville. She was a life member of Robert Fulton Eastern Star #446. Janet loved traveling, the arts, playing cards, and spending time with family and friends.
Surviving are several nieces and nephews; along with several grand and great-grand nieces and nephews. Janet was preceded in death by brothers; Hampton, Clifton, Leighton and Thurston along with sisters: Anna, Mary, and Ruth Irene. Services celebrating Janet’s life will be held on Tuesday, May 22, 2018 from St. Paul’s Church, 1 West Fourth Street in Quarryville beginning at 11:00 a.m. There will be an opportunity for friends to visit with the family immediately following the service. Interment will be private. Because of Janet’s love of children, her wish was that any contributions may be made in her memory to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Pl, Memphis, TN 38105.
