James W. Phipps, 87, of Peach Bottom went home to be with his Lord on Friday, May 6, 2016 at his home surrounded by his family. Born in Wrightsdale, he was the son of the late Verner P. and Pansy (Johnston) Phipps. Jim and his wife, Mabel L. Rowland Phipps had celebrated 64 years of marriage in November. After graduating High School, Jim served his country in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. After returning home he worked as a mechanic at the former H.H. Wiggins and Duvall Chevrolet and went on to retire from Yellow Freight. Jim was a life member of Wrightsdale Baptist Church. He enjoyed traveling, hunting and fishing along with building and flying RC planes, restoring old Corvairs and spending time with his family. Besides his wife, Jim is survived by: Christine (Richard) Dickson, Jim, Jr. (Della Mae), Kevin (Audrey), Ken (Judith), Penny Phipps and Steve (Sue). 14 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and brothers Paul and Hal.
A service celebrating Jim’s life will be on Wednesday, May 11, 2016 at 12:00 from Wrightsdale Baptist Church, 310 Little Britain Road, Peach Bottom, PA 17563. Friends may visit with the family at the church one hour prior to the service and also immediately following the service. Interment will be private in the West Nottingham Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Please omit flowers; contributions may be made in Jim’s memory to the Wrightsdale Baptist Church at the above address.
