James Leroy Brown of Peach Bottom died at home on Saturday, March 22, 2014. He was 86. Mr. Brown was born in Nottingham, a son of the late Harold Leroy and Polly Duncan Brown. He graduated from Oxford Area High School in 1946. Mr. Brown enlisted in the Delaware National Guard, where he served for 21 months and rose to the rank of sergeant. He was deployed during the Korean War. After being honorably discharged, he became a self-employed mushroom farmer and a commercial compost mixer. He later managed Interstate Mushroom Co., West Grove. He served as a West Nottingham Township supervisor and roadmaster from 1983 to 1985. He worked as a heavy equipment operator until he retired in 1993.
Mr. Brown was a member of Oxford Lodge 353, F.& A.M., for more than 50 years. He was also a member of Mason-Dixon American Legion Post 194, Rising Sun, Md., and the Oxford Lions Club. He had been a member of Wrightsdale Baptist Church since 1996. He is survived by his wife, Lillie Wiles Brown; two daughters, Vicki L., wife of Marv Kuzo of Williamsport, and Jacqueline L., wife of Chris Barone of Northumberland; two step-children, Kathryn, wife of Greg Light of Elizabethtown, and Ray, husband of Tracy of Texas; eight grandchildren; and a great-grandson. His first wife, Darlene Diveley, and brothers Robert Brown and Paul Brown, are deceased. Friends may call at the Wrightsdale Baptist Church, 310 Little Britain Rd. South, Peach Bottom, from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 29. Services will be held from the church at 11 a.m. on that date with Pastor Steve Sheldon officiating. Burial with military honors will be in the Little Britain Presbyterian Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wrightsdale Baptist Church Building fund, 310 Little Britain Rd.
