The Southern End has lost a great “behind the scenes” worker and volunteer. J. Stanley “Butch” Stauffer, Jr., 82, of Quarryville, passed away on Sunday, September 22, 2019 at Hospice and Community Care following a lengthy battle with cancer.
He was born in Lancaster to the late J. Stanley “Stiff” Sr. and Sara (Southern) Stauffer. A life-long resident of Quarryville, Butch is survived by a son, Scott, husband of Suzanne Stauffer of Quarryville; a daughter, Kristen, wife of Stephen Robertson of Lititz; five grandchildren; and two sisters, Frances Reyburn of Oxford; and Elizabeth Miller of Quarryville.
A graduate of Solanco High School, he was vice president of his senior class and was active in the FFA. An avid ball player, he was the lead-off hitter for his school’s baseball team. He played in modified softball leagues for over 50 years and continued to play slow pitch softball with the Willow Street kids and cubs team, playing well into his seventies.
