Hugh Lesley of Columbia died at home on Thursday, October 22, 2015. He was 82. Mr. Lesley was born in Lancaster, a son of the late Joseph and Bertha Brubaker Lesley. He lived in Kirkwood before moving to Columbia. Mr. Lesley was graduated from Oxford High school in 1950 and earned a degree in agriculture from Penn State University in 1954. While at Penn State, he was a member of the Pershing Rifle military fraternity.
He served in the U.S. Army for two years. Mr. Lesley owned and operated a poultry and grain farm and also owned and operated the Lesley Christmas Tree farm in Kirkwood. He attended Union Presbyterian Church, Kirkwood. Mr. Lesley was an avid collector of Edsel, Lincoln, Mercury, and Ford cars. He is survived by his companion, Fran Urban; four children; Kenneth Lesley, husband of Catherine H. Osman of Washington, D.C., Karen Lesley, wife of Ronald G. Rice of Airville, Eileen Scotten of Oxford, and Peter Lesley of Kirkwood; five grandchildren, Dwayne H. Scotten, R. Christopher Scotten, David Lesley, Sarah O. Lesley, and Cheyenne E. Lesley; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Susan Derrickson of Milford, Del., and Mary Lou Pexton of Evanston, Wyoming; and his former wife, Ruth H. Lefever. His wife, Joyce Gibson Lesley, is deceased. Friends may call at Union Presbyterian Church, 5637 Street Rd., Kirkwood, from 3 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, October 31. A memorial service will be held from the church at 4 p.m. on that date. Burial will be in the Union cemetery.
