Honora Elizabeth Fudala Williams, 97, New Providence, PA passed away on Sunday, July 8 just before a beautiful sunrise. She lived a fully fruitful, engaged, and blessed life all the way to her passing. She never gave up on life and even on her last day on this earth, she started another batch of pickles to home can. She just completed a road trip to visit her sister and her late cousin’s wife and daughter. Her passion for food and amazing abilities in cooking—that began at age 3--and sewing inspired those of all ages and backgrounds. On her recent trip, she talked to one of the owners of the famous Moosewood Restaurant and cookbooks, sharing her experiences of running cafeterias and providing nutritious meals to schoolchildren. She was also known for her sewing. Each winter she made clothes for children. This past winter, she made 34 outfits (a “small amount”) to make children feel special that they had a hand-made outfit. Honora graduated from Duryea High School and Mansfield University with a degree in home economics. She also completed coursework in dietetics. She taught home economics at Dupont High School. In addition to teaching at Delaware City High School (DE) and Huntington Mills High School, she also ran the school cafeterias. She was born on March 9, 1921, in Wilkes Barre, PA to Peter and Ada Swantkowski Fudala. She was married to Paul M. Williams, who passed away in 2003, for 54 years.
She is survived by four children, Denise (Robert), Drumore, Duane, Lansdale, , Derle (Paula), Mountville, and Drew, Washington, DC, five grandchildren, Chad (Maria), Colin (Catharine), and Kyle (Elizabeth) Young, Abby Williams (Steven Slaught) and Kent Williams, and five great-grandchildren—all whom she loved and cherished. She is also survived by her youngest sister, Darlene (Joe) Bavitz, of Doylestown, whom she visited last week. She was pre-deceased by brothers—twins--Klement and Karl Fudala and sister Aileen Swinczynski. She was also known as Mother Williams to so many and cherished by many friends and neighbors. She was a member of New Creation United Methodist Church, Lancaster, PA. She was a Past Worthy Matron of Robert Fulton Chapter of Order of Eastern Star and had a long a long relationship with other Lancaster County past worth matrons who served the same year. Funeral Services will take place at 11:15 a.m. on Saturday, July 14, 2018 at New Creation United Methodist Church, 10 West Farnum Street, Lancaster, PA 17603 (off-street parking around the back of the church). There will be a viewing at the church on Saturday from 10-11 a.m. Interment will take place in the Conestoga Memorial Park at 2:00 p.m. Those attending are asked to bring a favorite recipe, something they learned about food or cooking, or something they were inspired by from Mom. Or, share those thoughts online at dewalds.com. In addition, if you have a hand towel sewn by Mom, bring it to display at your seat. Comments are closed.
