Elvin R. Wert, 71, of Mt Airy Road, New Providence, PA was welcomed into his eternal home at Hospice and Community Care, Mt. Joy, PA on Thursday, May 12, 2016 following a courageous three year battle with cancer. He and his wife Judy A. Frick Wert celebrated 46 years of marriage. Born in Hessdale, PA he was the son of the late Ralph A. and Verna M. Eshleman Wert. Elvin retired from Kunzler Meats where he was employed as a meat packer/processor. He previously had been employed by Armstrong, Thompson, Hamilton Tech, and in construction. He proudly served his country in the US Air Force during the Vietnam War. Elvin was a member of New Providence Church of God and the Solanco Farmer’s Sportsman’s Association. He enjoyed shooting archery, hunting, fishing, gardening around his home, and NASCAR, especially Jimmy Johnson. His biggest enjoyment was spending time with family and grandkids. Surviving beside his wife Judy is a daughter Melissa D. wife of Corey Lyter of Willow Street; 2 grandchildren, Elizabeth Lyter and Seth Lyter; and a brother Donald (Marlena) Wert of Strasburg.
He was preceded in death by 2 brothers Fred Wert and Jerry Wert and a sister Virginia Wert. Memorial services will be held at New Providence Church of God, 269 Cinder Road, New Providence, PA on Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at 11:00AM with Pastor Dwight Lefever officiating. Inurnment will follow in the adjoining cemetery. A visitation will be held at the church from 9:30AM until the time of service. Kindly omit flowers.
