Douglas McArthur Owens, died unexpectedly at home on Tuesday, November 5, 2013. He was 71. He was the loving husband of Jane Kunkel Owens, with whom she spent 31 wonderful years. Mr. Owens was born in Birchleaf, Virginia, was the son of the late Frances Boyd and Issac Boyd. He was a graduate of Centreville High School in Centreville, Maryland in 1960. Following 40 years of service, he retired from High Steel Structures, Inc. in 2003. Over the years, his passion for boating and fishing inspired him to earn his Captain's license. Captain Doug and his first mate, Jane, enjoyed many fishing trips on the Delaware Bay in the boat, "Wahine Kini." He also enjoyed reading, traveling, listening to country music, tending his rose garden, and sharing his bounty from his vegetable garden with others. He will be fondly remembered for his warm smile, quick wit and his hospitality.
In addition to his wife he is survived by a daughter, Margie Shaefer, and husband Brian, of Pequea; sons, Douglas, Jr., of Ocean City, MD; and Michael, and wife Susan, of Lancaster; step-son, Jeffrey Skojec and wife Sherry, of Lititz; a grandson, David Frey; granddaughter, Gracie Ann Reinhart; great granddaughter, Kendra Frey; sister, Anne Allen, and husband Walter, of Millington, MD; niece, Angie and nephew, Jeff. Friends can call at the Reynolds Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc., in Quarryville on Saturday, November 9 from 10 to 11 a.m. Services will be held at the funeral home immediately following at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Quarryville Cemetery.
