Barbara Hershey Platt of New Providence arrived at her final home on Friday, November 18, 2016. She was born in Lititz on October 22, 1949. Her greatest joys in life were being a wife to Alan; “the momma” to Matt and his wife Jenn (Miller), Jamie and his wife Erin (Baughman); “Mimi” to Aiden, Kolton, Bennett, and Caroline; a daughter to Ruth Risser Hershey and the late Elwood Hershey; a sister to Etta Jean (Harold) Kern, Orpha (Peter) Lewis, Dan (Caroline) Hershey, and JoLynn (Lewie) Shine; an “out-law” to Alan’s extended Somerset County Platt and Shockey families; a teacher and coworker to many wonderful students and colleagues in the Downingtown, Solanco, and Lampeter-Strasburg School Districts; a volunteer in retirement. Most of all, she delighted in being a sister in Christ and a child of God. Her hope was that those who knew her would remember her with a smile in the context of your relationship. Her prayer was that she would have been a blessing to you in some way and that you might have seen Christ’s love through her. Burial will be private.
A celebration will be held at her home church, Mechanic Grove Church of the Brethren, 1392 Robert Fulton Highway, Quarryville, PA on Sunday, December 4, 2016 at 2:00PM. The family will receive friends following the service in the Family Life Center. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice and Community Care, P.O. Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604-4125 or Children’s Outreach Ministries, c/o Mechanic Grove Brethren Church, 1392 Robert Fulton Highway, Quarryville, PA 17566.
