Allen B. Mellott, Jr., 70, of Kirkwood died Wednesday, August 1, 2018 at Lancaster General Hospital. He was the husband of Virginia L. Bird Mellott. Born in Lancaster County, he was the son of the late Allen B. and Dorothy Gladys Levering, Mellott, Sr.
Mr. Mellott worked both as a farmer and a self- employed contractor. He enjoyed all the things about farming, horses, cows, and anything associated with agriculture. Martin Z. Nolt, 90, of Peach Bottom, passed away peacefully at his home on August 2, 2018. Martin was born on June 11, 1928 to the late Amos and Ada (Zimmerman) Nolt, formerly of Talmage, PA.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Eva (Weaver) Nolt on June 23, 2014. Martin and Eva were married on October 20, 1951. He was also preceded in death by his son, Glen and two grandsons on May 23, 2012, an infant son, Jay, and a sister, Mabel Nolt. Martin was a farmer and a member of Bethel Mennonite Church. Martin and Eva enjoyed many years of service in Numidia Mennonite Bible School as cooks for the students and staff and many visitors. Jay died peacefully with family by his side, at the Overlook Masonic Home, Charlton, MA on March 2, 2018. He had just turned 100 on February 1, 2018. Surviving are his daughter, Phyllis Pownall of Cambridge, MA; son, Ron Pownall and daughter-in-law Darlene DeVita of Chelsea, MA; grandsons Ben Pownall and Amos Pownall of Denver, CO. He was pre-deceased by his wife of 71 years, Claudia Pownall. He grew up on the family dairy farm near Lancaster PA; graduated from Penn State; and, served in the Navy during WW2. After the war, he & Claudia started a wholesale garden supply business in Wilmington DE; they retired to FL in 1982 and “re-retired” to Charlton MA in 2006 to be near their children and grandchildren; they summered on Pine River Pond near Ossipee, NH. |
