Becky J. Becker, 72, of Ronks, formerly of Manheim, passed away on Friday, August 17, 2018, at home surrounded by her family and friends. She was the beloved wife of Robert L. Becker, with whom she shared 28 years of marriage. Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late John H. and Anna Elizabeth (Danner) Shank. Becky’s working career spanned 50 years, during which she worked for Raybestos, Armstrong World Industries, The Jay Group, Bob Becker Trucking, and most recently as a hostess at Good ‘N Plenty Restaurant. In her spare time, Becky enjoyed fishing and gardening. Over the years she also enjoyed having several pet birds. Bingo was a favorite pastime of hers, and for several years she called bingo on Thursday nights at the community center in her neighborhood. Family was very important to Becky: she was an excellent cook, she loved spending time with her granddaughter, and she was a wonderful wife to her husband. Brian R. Miller, 56, of Quarryville PA, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Monday, August 13, 2018. He was the husband of Deborah Gibson Miller. They had celebrated 37 years of marriage. Born in Northeast Philadelphia PA, a son of Barbara Neill Miller, Strasburg, and the late George Miller. Brian was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, Quarryville. An avid outdoor enthusiast, Brian was a member of the Southern Lancaster County Farmers Sportsman’s Assoc., and NRA. He enjoyed fishing, motorcycles, Ford trucks, shooting, camping, and was a grill master. Eugene C. “Geno” Fragale, 88, of Quarryville, entered into rest on Sunday, August 12, 2018 at Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community. Born in Kennett Square, he was the son of the late Angelo and Mary (Aielo) Fragale. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Darlene (McAlarney) Fragale. Geno was a professional gardener at Longwood Gardens of over 20 years. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army and had attended St. Catherine’s Catholic Church. Geno enjoyed roller skating and regular breakfast meetings with a group of local veterans. Everybody knew Geno by the smile on his face and the twinkle in his eye. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a sister, Helen “Dolly” Citino of Kennett Square; 3 nieces and 2 nephews. Robert C. “Bob” Stoltzfus, 84, of Paradise, entered into rest at Lancaster General Hospital on Friday, August 10, 2018 as the result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident earlier in the day. Born in Leola, he was the son of the late Elam and Mabel (Petery) Stoltzfus. Bob had worked as a brick layer for Paul Risk Associates in Quarryville. He was a member of Rough and Tumble and enjoyed collecting garden tractors and spending time with his family. Travis Wayne Giffing, 37, of Peach Bottom, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly due to complications as a result of a brain tumor on Sunday, August 5, 2018, while vacationing in St. Petersburg, Florida. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of Robert A. and Patricia A. (Young) Giffing. Travis was a graduate of Solanco High School, class of 1998, where he was a lead percussionist of the marching band. Since music was a passion of his life, Travis found employment as a salesperson for Guitar Center and Drums Etc., teacher of private music lessons, and was the drummer in a number of bands, most notably No Apology, Blue Corduroy, The Vagrants, and Poppa Doc. In his younger years, Travis was active in The Boy Scouts, and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. He also enjoyed riding dirt bikes and working on cars. Travis was known for having an outgoing personality and connecting with people. His ability to walk into a crowd of strangers and walk out with several friends will be deeply missed. J. Kenneth Kreider, 69, of New Providence, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, August 6, 2018. Born in Providence Twp., he was the son of Norma Herr Kreider and the late Howard Kreider, Jr. He is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Ruth Ann (Nolt) Kreider. Ken was a 1967 graduate of Solanco High School, where he was active in the FFA. He was a life-long farmer and had also worked at E.M. Herr Farm and Home Center. Ken was a member of New Providence Mennonite Church all of his life and served on the cemetery board. Ken enjoyed southern gospel music and going to tractor pulls. One of his favorite hobbies was restoring and showing antique tractors and farm equipment at local fairs. In addition to his wife, Ken is survived by a daughter, Karen, wife of Aaron Holdren of Ulster, PA; 2 grandchildren: Emma and Josiah; siblings, James, husband of Linda Kreider of Quarryville; Carl Kreider of New Providence; Linda, wife of Michael Peifer of Manheim; and 4 nieces and nephews; and 6 grand nieces and nephews. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by an infant sister, Barbara. M. Louise Gehron, 83, of Quarryville PA, formerly of Cochranville, PA passed away on Saturday, August 4, 2018. She was the widow of the late John N. Gehron who passed away in 2015. She was a member of Oxford Presbyterian Church. Louise enjoyed working in her flower beds, baking, and taking bowling trips with her girlfriends. She loved her family with all her heart. Her door was always open to anyone who needed a place to stay or somewhere to go for Thanksgiving Day. She could make you laugh so hard your face hurt. Louise had worked for 25 years as a cashier at the ACME in Parkesburg, PA. Born in Peach Bottom PA, she was a daughter of the late Edward and Mollie Blevins Sizemore. Connie L. O’Connor, 73, of Kirkwood, PA died Thursday, August 2, 2018 at Lancaster General Hospital. She was the widow of Robert F. O’Connor who died March 19, 2018. Born in West Chester, she was the daughter of the late Kenneth and Virginia Ethel Weir Brown. Connie retired after 45 years of service from Nottingham Cannery. She enjoyed reading, going to the beach, playing bingo, and watching the Hallmark Channel. Surviving her are two children, Tracy (David) Church, Robert K. (Gina) O’Connor; 2 grandchildren, Tyler and Dominque. Simon McQuinn Johnson Jr., 83, of Quarryville, went to be with the Lord on Thursday morning, August 2, 2018, with his son by his side at Hospice and Community Care, Mount Joy. Born June of 1935 in Apex, Wake County, North Carolina, he was the son of the late Simon M. and Hannah Collar Johnson Sr. and the foster child of the late H. William and Margaret Ammon Maser. Simon spent his early years on the Maser farm outside of Christiana, PA. He went to school until grade 6 at the Cooperville School near Christiana. While continuing to farm, he worked for several companies in the Lancaster County area. Then, starting out on his own, Simon worked on construction projects, demolition, sitework, and grading & seeding. He also was employed for Farmer’s Supply, J.C. Snavely, and worked with Skip Mellinger and George Good building homes in the Landisville and Mountville areas, the Gram Corporation working with George Gillespie, to name a few. Starting in the 1960’s, he plowed snow with an International Scout and a manual angle plow, then moving to Dodge Sno Commanders and Power Wagons in the mid 70’s and continued into the 2000’s with Ram Trucks. Jody Lynn Rineer, 57, of Peach Bottom, passed away on Friday, August 3, 2018, at Mount Carmel Senior Living, Mount Carmel, PA. She was the loving wife of the late Michael D. Rineer, sharing 40 years together at the time of his passing in February 2018.
Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Mary (Wallace) Coble. Jody attended Pequea Valley Schools. After high school, she worked as a housekeeper at Willow Valley, and also as a secretary with Robert W. McMullen VMD Ltd. veterinary practice. Talented in making crafts, Jody regularly made craft items and submitted crafts to the Solanco Fair each year. She was also a member of Pequea Boat Club and the Lancaster County Sportsmen’s Association. |
