Willie Tom Clemonts, 84, of Oxford, passed on Sunday, March 1, 2020 at home. He was the husband of the late Eleanor Ross Clemonts Born in Macon, GA he was the son of the late Tom and Ellen Farley Clemonts. Willie attended school in Georgia but had to quit school early to help on the family farm. Willie retired from Crowley Dairy Co., Lancaster and Pensupreme Milk Co. for over thirty years. Willie enjoyed life, he loved people and always had a smile on his face. He enjoyed lawn work and riding his tractors. He always was willing to help anyone he could. He is survived by two grandsons, Brandon Clemonts and Michael Roble; one great-granddaughter, Bella Clemonts; a special niece, Brenda Thomas; and a host of nieces and nephews. Gary Clifford Smith, 78, of Quarryville and formerly of Pocomoke City, MD, died Thursday, March 53/9/2020
Gary Clifford Smith, 78, of Quarryville, and formerly Pocomoke City, MD, entered into rest on Thursday, March 5, 2020. Born in Bishopville, MD, he was the son of the late Clifford and Louise (Bryant) Smith. Gary and his wife, Dotsie (Powl) Smith had celebrated 43 years of marriage in November. Gary worked as a barber for 57 years. He was a member of the Elks Club in Pocomoke City and a member of Redmens Club in Salisbury, MD. Gary enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing, horse races and weekly poker games, but his first love was his family, he cherished the times he spent with them. LaRue Ann Davis, 72, of Gap, passed away on Thursday, March 5, 2020 after fighting a long and courageous battle with illness. She was the loving wife of the late Jimmey L. Davis, with whom she shared 44 years of marriage at the time of his passing in 2016. Born in Waynesboro, PA, she was the daughter of the late Robert L. and Leotta J. (Pryor) Downin. LaRue was a graduate of Greencastle-Antrim High School, class of 1965. During her career, LaRue was employed by Lenape Forge, Diversified Printing (and later Quebecor), Advanced Trim Specialties, Le-jo Enterprises, and most recently as a purchasing agent for Apple Auto Sales. She was also a licensed notary. Irene Ashley, 95, of Tanning Yard Hollow Road, Peach Bottom, PA died Thursday, March 5, 2020 at her residence. She was the wife of the late Fred W. Ashley who died April 16, 1976. Born in Grayson County, VA, she was the daughter of the late James and Belva Testerman Reedy. A homemaker, Irene was a member of Nottingham Missionary Baptist Church where was a Sunday school and Bible school teacher. She enjoyed gardening, quilting, crocheting, and her pet animals. Carl R. Diem, 75, of Quarryville, entered into rest on Wednesday, March 4, 2020 at home surrounded by his family. Born in Bareville, PA, he was the son of the late Lester B. and Verna (McCorkle) Diem. He and his wife, Jackie A. (Helenthal) Diem had celebrated 22 years of marriage in June. Carl attended Conestoga Valley High School. He worked as a long-distance truck driver, last employed by Howard E. Groff Company. Carl was a very helpful and well-known man who served his community as a volunteer fireman for the Quarryville Fire Company and was Captain of the Quarryville Fire Police. He was also a member of Memorial United Methodist Church in Quarryville. Carl loved spending time with his family. Joan M. Schlimme, 79, of Kirkwood, PA., entered into rest on Monday, March 2, 2020. Born in Coatesville, she was the daughter of the late Fred C. and Helen M. (Thompson) Schlimme. Joan graduated from Coatesville High School in 1958, where she was a cheerleader and also played the alto saxophone in the school’s marching band. She worked as the executive director of American Trakehner Association, located in Heath, OH. Joan loved spending time with her family and also enjoyed Fox Hunting, horses, and her pets. David A. “Dave” Sheaffer, Sr., 75, of Refton, passed away on Tuesday, March 3, 2020 at Lancaster General Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Audrey L. (Peters) Sheaffer, with whom he shared 52 years of marriage. Born in Atglen, he was the son of the late Horace and Helen (Stanley) Sheaffer. Dave was a graduate of Pequea Valley High School, class of 1962. After high school, he worked as a mechanic and a crane operator, and then he worked as a rigging foreman for S.S. Betz and Herr Industrial, retiring with over 20 years’ service. Dave liked the outdoors. He was a lifetime member of the Pequea Valley Sportsmen’s Association and he enjoyed hunting at his camp near McVeytown, PA. When he was young, he enjoyed riding his motorcycle. He also loved to go deep sea fishing. Dave was an avid camper, taking his 5th wheel camper to many different locations. Jean H. Walker, 91, formerly of Georgetown and Stevens, passed away on Tuesday, March 3, 2020 at Lancashire Hall. Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Frank G., and Reba (Walker) Hilton. She was the loving wife of the late Freeman Walker for over 57 years at the time of his passing. Jean was a graduate of Quarryville High School and had worked as a bookkeeper and office assistant for several years. She sang with the Red Rose Chapter of the Sweet Adelines and also enjoyed bowling and spending time at Crystal and Bethany Beaches. Richard F. “Dick” Dengler, 89 of Willow Street died Thursday, February 27, 2020 at Lancaster General Hospital.
He was born on Cabbage Hill in Lancaster on February 7, 1931, the son of the late Samuel F. and Mary (Good) Dengler. Dick attended Fremont Elementary, Reynolds Jr. High and McCaskey High Schools, graduating in 1949. Dick retired in 1986 after 36 years of employment from Ford New Holland (now CNHI). In retirement, he volunteered with several organizations and especially enjoyed volunteering at Schreiber Pediatric’s Preschool for 28 years. He was a member of Ascension Lutheran Church in Willow Street. |
