Anna M. “Ann” Deshong, 85, of New Providence, passed away on Wednesday, February 13, 2019, at her home. Born in Bedford County on September 6, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Rush and Thersa (Gehm) Ritchey. Ann attended Everett Area High School. After high school, Ann worked for several years at the Howard Johnson’s in Bedford. She then moved to Southern Lancaster County and was employed by Solanco Daycare for 23 years as a classroom aide. Ann’s love for children led her to study child development and enroll in several college courses. She was an active member of Calvary Independent Baptist Church in Mechanic Grove, where she taught Sunday school classes for 2- & 3-year-olds for 40 years. Ann is survived by her daughters, Bonnie and Mary Deshong, both of New Providence, and Amy Deshong, of Carlisle; a son, Gerald Deshong, of Columbia; a brother, John Ritchey, of Peach Bottom; and 6 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brothers, George, Frank, and Rush Ritchey, Jr., and her sisters, Susan Foor, Kathryn Cassey, Elsie McDonald, and Thersa Ritchey.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 18, 2019, at Calvary Independent Baptist Church, 1225 Robert Fulton Highway, Quarryville, PA, with a viewing at the church from 10 – 11 a.m. Interment will immediately follow the service at Mechanic Grove Mennonite Cemetery.
